These yachting events include the St. Barth Regatta (celebrated just before Lent), the Saint Barth's Cup (held in April and sponsored by the Saint Barth Yacht Club) as well as the three-day International Regatta in May with racing events.

The St Barths Bucket Regatta is of particular note and is held in early April or late March. The St Barths Bucket Regatta is a gentlemanly yacht race for luxury yachts over 100 feet in length. The race was conceived many years ago by wealthy yachtsmen, Tom Taylor and Abner Doubleday, and has flourished to over 26 entries in 2005. 2006 & 2007 saw even more entries with 2008, 2009 and 2010 expected to continue growth. The race is a rare chance for larger yachts, both private and charter, to gather together and parade around a beautiful race course in a good natured and friendly test of speed and skills. Sailing superyachts racing together makes the St Barths Bucket Regatta an amazing spectacle indeed.

Choose from the 20 stunning beaches St. Barths has to offer. Cruise to the south of the island to find Grand Saline, a pristine beach with little development. On the west side of the island is Colombier Beach, accessible only via boat or a hike. St. Jean, Flammands, and Grand-Cul-de-Sac beaches are popular and attractive where various hotels and other establishments are located, while Shell Beach is popular for families with many attractive tide pools for children to play in. 

With varying ocean currents, the beaches differ — Scuba diving and snorkeling are a great way to see the nurse sharks, lobsters, conch, and green sea turtles that abound in the waters surrounding the little island. Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

Lorient Beach - A long stretch of beach with something for everyone, from killer curls for the surfers, to swim areas, and shallower sheltered pools favored by families. The reefs here are teeming with life and it is rumored to be the best place on the island to see sea turtles.

Colombier Beach - Tucked into the Northwestern tip of the island this strip of sand is a little more off the beaten path. Only accessible by boat or an approximately 15-minute hike from Flammands, this beach offers a chance to escape.

Petit de Anse - Just off the road near Flamands, this is a great spot to see turtles and parrotfish.

Forchue Island - Unfortunately, some of the other best snorkeling spots like this are not on the island. You can however take your own charter or hire a diveboat to help you find them!

Getting There

The principal gateway to St. Barts (SBH) is through Princess Juliana International Airport on nearby Dutch St. Maarten. Flights arrive daily from both the USA and Europe and from St. Maarten, several airlines offer a ten-minute shuttle flight to St. Barts. The island can also be reached from Guadeloupe on a 45-minute flight, or a locally based charter flight available from San Juan or Antigua. St. Barts is also reachable by boat from any of the neighboring islands. 

Climate and Weather

The climate is ideal, with temperatures generally ranging from 76 to 82°F. The sparkling blue waters have an average temperature of 75°F –making it the perfect destination for yacht charters. Like the rest of the region, the year is split into the dry season from December to May and the rainy season from June to November, but most storms blow over quickly and there is sunshine almost 365 days a year in St. Barths.

Its name means 'the flying beast” and it is named for the airplanes which occasionally pass overhead on their way to the airport on the other side of the island. It is a major spot to see and be seen while listening to good music and enjoying the view of the harbor.

Le Ti in Pointe Milou . A fun nightspot where you may find yourself dancing on the tables after dinner until the wee hours of the morning. St. Barts also hosts cultural events such as the annual Classical Music Festival which now has been expanded to include jazz and ballet.

Saint Barthélemy, or St Barts (St Barth to the French) is well known for its moniker “the St Moritz of the Caribbean ” due to its unique Swedish-French colonial heritage, and is synonymous with glamour, movie stars and designer shopping. However there is so much more to this idyllic island than the luxury boutique resorts and private villas that peek from behind veils of tropical foliage, it also boasts a laid-back charm with vibrant street cafes and endless stretches of platinum sand beaches fringed by warm turquoise waters, making this tiny slice of paradise the perfect destination for a luxury yacht charter .

St Barts is a natural magnet for the SuperyachtSet, where every New Year’s Eve they descend on this tiny island and vie for prime berth spots in the marina and harbour for the annual event. The harbour is a hive of activity as tenders ferry the rich and famous back and forth from their yachts during the festivities. But you needn’t wait until the turn of the year to enjoy everything this astonishing island has to offer.

Arriving in St Barts and getting around the island

Treat yourself in the island’s capital of gustavia, visit the ruins of fort gustave and fort karl, relax and unwind on saline beach, enjoy sundowners at nikki beach, baie st-jean, experience fine dining at the celebrated aux amis.

The only marina in St Barts is Port de Gustavia , which you’ll find on the western side of the island. The marina is set in a beautiful sheltered harbour, characterised by myriad low red-roofed buildings, designer boutiques and restaurants that line the perimeter. The marina has 60 berth slips for yachts up to 61m/200ft LOA, with plenty of space for anchoring out in the harbour. 

Due to the favourable trade winds that pick up between March-April, this pretty marina also provides the backdrop for the celebrated annual sailing regattas of Saint Barths Bucket and Les Voiles de Saint Barth Richard Mille, which attracts some of the largest sailing yachts in the world that all come to take part in the exhilarating events put on each day.

Getting around the island is fairly straightforward, however the roads are quite narrow and steep, but there are plenty of local taxis on the island if you wish to travel anywhere outside of the port. The island itself is only 11 miles long and 2.5 miles wide, so it won’t take long to get where you’re going!

Named after a Swedish king during the country's brief reign, the town of Gustavia is situated around the duty-free port, laden with designer shops, boutiques and pretty galleries. The town’s architecture echoes influences from its various occupants, including the Swedish, English, French and the Carib; from winding cobbled streets and old Scandinavian style mansions to the Aglo-gothic church and spire. 

Take a stroll along the iconic Quai de la Republique, which wraps itself around the U-shaped Port de Gustavia and plays host to a vast array of famous designer Houses, including Hermes, Roberto Cavalli, Ralph Lauren and Prada. For those that adore a bit of bling, you’ll also find Cartier, Chopard and Bulgari nestled along the quay. You may also spot the island’s homegrown beauty brand: Ligne St Barth, renowned for its natural ingredients and clean floral scents that evoke the essence of the Caribbean.

The shops tend to close in the middle of the day, making this the perfect time to restore aching feet and indulge your taste buds. You’ll find a fantastic variety of informal eateries and high-end restaurants lining the quay, which all offer mouthwatering dishes and fantastic service. 

There are so many cafes and restaurants, you'll be spoilt for choice. Some of our favourites include classic French cuisine at Bagatelle, Latin-inspired dishes at Bonito St Barth and the newly opened Fish Corner, a tiny restaurant that has aready garenered rave reviews and even boasts its own fishing boat with the menu reflecting that day's catch. Perfect with a glass of chilled white wine.

After a spot of lunch - and quick handover of your morning’s worth of shopping to a crew member who will arrange to get them safely back to the yacht - take a hike uphill to Fort Gustave, located at the mouth of the harbour. 

Built in the 18th century it is one of three strongholds built to protect the island from invasion. Today, the site is recognisable by the whitewashed lighthouse that rises majestically at its center, but the biggest draw card is the panoramic vistas across the harbour and out to the glistening Caribbean Sea, where you can just imagine swarthy pirates and square-rigged naval warships doing battle.

To the south of Gustavia overlooking Shell Beach, Fort Karl is another stronghold that is worth visiting for the astonishing sweeping views over the town and harbour, as well as over to the neighbouring islands of St Kitts and Nevis and St Maarten . 

For your own little slice of paradise, head to  Anse de Grande Saline beach in the south of the island , arguably St Barts’ most beautiful beach, and one of the finest in the Caribbean. Here grass-topped sand dunes provide the backdrop for this tranquil cove of golden sands embraced by waters in shades of turquoise, teal and cobalt-blue.

Protected by the bays and rocky islets that shape the island’s coast, Anse de Grande Saline beach is a secluded haven away from the masses, making it the perfect spot to chill out and catch the late afternoon rays. Prudes be warned, there may be a few bare cheeks around ... this is French territory after all!

There is also an abundance of marine life found in the shallow waters off the coast of St Barts, with coral reefs, colourful fish and other marine fauna a mere flipper-kick away. Just grab a mask and snorkel and dive in.

The award-winning Colombier Beach with its coral-colored sands and the exquisite Gouverneur Beach boasting ivory sands and turquoise waters are also well-worth a visit.

To watch the kaleidoscopic spectacle of a Caribbean sunset, where better than the liveliest beach in all of St Barts, Baie de St Jean. Here, you and your guests can kick-back with a cocktail at the iconic Nikki Beach club, an open-air, casual affair that has been modelled on the same minimalist crisp white aesthetic as its European counterparts, including its trademark teepees. 

Relax and indulge your inner voyeur in a spot of celebrity-spotting, as the glitterati regularly flock to this luxurious haven. Eclipse is a Couach 115-foot motor yacht. With 120 years of experience in shipbuilding, the iconic French brand is a leader of design, style and innovation. The hull design, conceived after extensive research and testing, insures comfort and safety regardless of weather conditions. The build was designed for charter and equipped with all required safety features. Interiors, designed by Frank Reynaud, feature fair trade polished teak and leather for a high level of elegance that is also family-friendly. The yacht is fully air-conditioned and features wifi throughout and independent satellite channels on each television so everyone is free to choose a preferred program. The main deck layout features a traditional dining room, a spacious living room, and a spacious salon with a unique, rotunda bay window on the afterdeck. Also on the main deck, an independent office fully equipped with all communication tools is available for those who must keep in touch. The wheelhouse, day head and professional kitchen are also on this level. There are five guest cabins positioned on the lower deck. One primary and two VIP staterooms and two guestrooms. Each has a private bathroom with separate toilet. All staterooms are equipped with queen beds. Large storage spaces can even accommodate bulky luggage. The most popular area on Eclipse is the spacious fly bridge. Open architecture allows for different areas defined by furnishings. The spacious dining arrangement includes u-shaped seating for eight, positioned around dual tables and facing the bar and grill. Further back and perfectly downwind during navigation, is the large Jacuzzi and sun top. Propelled by two MTU V 16 motors of 2400 CV each, Eclipse is able to reach a maximum speed of 33 knots, perfect for island hopping! CAPTAIN JACO PIETERSE: Captain Jacobus Pieterse spent his childhood growing up grew up along the ocean and in the city in his native South Africa. He originally hails from Empangeni, which is a city in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, approximately 157 kilometers north of Durban, set in a hill countryside, overlooking a flat coastal plain and the major harbour town of Richards Bay which is 16 kilometers away, A very friendly, easy going and accessible person, everyone just calls him JACO (pronounced Yako). Besides swimming, Jaco excelled at rugby and boxing as a youth. His love of the water moved him on to a yachting career, he now has 30 years of experience on the water, from chartering, diving, and delivering yachts, both power and sail. Jaco is an easy to talk to person, who has a sense of adventure and relishes exploring new places. He spent a lot of time cruising the Indian Ocean, which he loves for its vast unspoiled areas. He arrived to Saint Maarten about 6 years ago and has been cruising the local waters there ever since. The area has become a home of sorts, and Jaco has designed interesting venues for all types of guests, depending on what they want to do, be it intensive watersports, horse back riding, touring, or just quiet pristine places to relax. He feels the service on board should tailor to the guest’s preferences. From a friendly casual atmosphere to a refined discreet silver service, Jaco will deliver what fits! His motto is “Be honest and real to yourself and others”. His straightforward enthusiasm and attention to details ensures an excellent charter on board Yacht Eclipse! CHEF VALERIE VINCENT: Valerie grew up in Antibes, France, surely one of the most famous yachting towns in the world! Her guests can especially enjoy Mediterranean cuisine from her galley; she easily specializes in French and Italian, as well as Spanish cuisines. Guests also rave about her more local Caribbean style Creole cooking along with other international meals. Having started out in St. Tropez as a yacht chef a few years ago, Valerie has a well-rounded background, she’s a great photographer and fashion stylist. She is great with kids, having a diploma in Child Care and having worked at summer camps. She loves to read, sail, hike, and participate in sports, and has a lot of volunteer work under her belt! Her service style on board can be either discreet or interactive, depending on the guests’ requirements. She’s serious about her work and her cheerful, benevolent personality makes her adaptable and determined to provide the guests with the finest cuisine to their specifications. She believes in good things and feels everything is possible! CHIEF MATE - MARCO DE VILLIERS: Marco is from Welkom, South Africa. He and his 2 brothers spent time on the farm and in the city growing up. As a child Marco pursued soccer and motor cross, and enjoyed a lot of fishing. In 2018 Marco decided it was time to see more of the world, and he followed his curiosity and love of the ocean to begin sailing. He decided he really liked yachts and watersports and has been working aboard various vessels ever since. His travels introduced him to one of his favorite locations, The Bahamas. There he was able to hone his yacht and water based skills and learn more of the beautiful underwater world. Besides his love of the ocean, Marco is a musician and DJ, Besides being there to assist in watersports and adventure, he will see that the music and fun is just right for guests aboard. He is a friendly, hardworking, and helpful part of the Eclipse crew! His motto is the “Life is amazing and is what it should be!” CHIEF STEWARDESS - MERUGIA VELDKAMP: Marugia is from The Netherlands. An adventurous soul, she spent time in Australia acquiring skills that have been a great aid to her job on board Eclipse. She has been waitress, hostess, barista, and bartender and also worked as a housekeeper and a social counselor. Some of her favorite activities are water sports, singing and Salsa dancing! But, do not let that sweet demeanor fool you, as this athletic young lady is also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do! Marugia started working on Eclipse as the second stewardess, but her job performance and dedication now have her in the position of Chief Stewardess. She always looks forward to hosting and serving the guests aboard! 2ND STEWARDESS - STEPHANIE

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled).
