On Board 49m M/Y Ocean Z with Capt. Billy Lockhart

Capt. Billy Lockhart has always loved pressing buttons and messing around on boats. Throw his extrovert personality into the mix, and he was born to be a yacht captain. He began his career running the dive department on cruise ships, where he also met his wife, the casino bank manager on board.
“Cruise ships go to all the same places as the superyachts, and my wife and I watched the yacht crew go by and we said to ourselves, ‘Now that is what we should be doing!’” So on December 5, 2000, they drove from Miami to Fort Lauderdale and dockwalked. “I had enough sea time to do my 100-ton license and my wife started out as a stew,” Lockhart says.
Lockhart’s first captain position was for the owners of NASCAR, and he stayed 15 years. “All of our boats were called M/Y Finish Line . We went through a dozen different boats and the last one we built from scratch at Trinity,” he says. “In 2014, we flew to Amsterdam for the World Superyacht Awards and won our category.”
This year, M/Y Ocean Z was a finalist in the World Superyacht Awards. This steel-hulled, full-displacement, true bluewater superyacht was delivered in May 2022. “ Ocean Z is a very interesting boat because it was built on spec,” Lockhart says. “We made the contract rather late, so it was a marathon sprint from start to finish, getting the boat finished and delivered. We put a lot of time and effort into making sure that everything we had control over was done to the highest level of perfection as well as customized to the way the owner likes to enjoy yachting.”
A good deal of effort was put into the loose furniture layout, the deck exterior, and the interior soft goods. In doing so, Lockhart reckons they were able to imprint a great “personality” onto an already great boat. “Reymond Langton Design did a very good job of putting together a very nice high-end interior, but also monochromatic, which is appropriate when what you are doing is trying to sell the boat to a future client and you want that boat to be as appealing to as broad a market as possible. And it was our job to come in and put our personality on it and it came out very nicely.”
The yacht has already completed two Atlantic crossings and more than 15,000 miles in the first year. “She just runs like a dream, rides like a dream,” Lockhart says. “We are not remotely the biggest in the Mediterranean, but we are easily the prettiest!”
Lockhart is particularly impressed by the boat’s use of space as every cranny is used and enjoyed. “Typically, on these boats you have areas where people just don’t go — that’s not the case here, every area has its own appeal, its own function, its own versatility, from the beach club to the sun deck, to the wheelhouse deck aft. They are all very inviting.”
The yacht has a traditional layout. The only unorthodox element is the tender bay on the bridge deck forward of the pilothouse. “That,” says Lockhart, “gives you a wholly dedicated space aft, which was a new feature for us. It took a while to figure out what that space meant for us.” It now has various functions: a gym for parents, a “den” for the teenage girls, and at anchor, it’s a beautiful beach club. “We decided toy-storage wise that anything visible needed to look like a high-end retail showroom,” he says. The team opted for a cantilever umbrella and large daybed on the sun deck.
“I’m very happy with her seaworthiness,” Lockhart says. “We’ve done two crossings with this boat and it’s definitely a luxury not to have to put a lot of concern into things like weather. We try to avoid getting beaten up by it — I’ve had more than enough of that — but on board Ocean Z , if you’ve got to go, you can go.”
Machinery wise, the systems meet expected standards and Lockhart considers it a very well put together boat, although if he had written the spec, he would have done it a bit differently here and there. “The layout for crew duties is fine: the engine room is compact but accessible, the stew pantry is not huge but completely functional, the galley has a nice space, and there is plenty of cold storage,” Capt. Lockhart says. “The exterior decks are very large and, despite the fact there’s very little built-in furniture, there’s still plenty of storage for bosun’s stuff, and so on. Crew accommodation is nicely outfitted, the sound privacy is fantastic — you can’t hear anything on the other side of the door.”
Eastern Med is the itinerary this summer; Scandinavia and Alaska beckon for future cruise, for the yacht plans to do everything but Zzzzz.

The main deck aft is mostly shaded by the upper deck overhang, providing a cool lounging area to enjoy the fresh sea breeze. The sun-exposed stern is lined with sunbeds, which join into C-shaped sofa seating at the centre for comfort and convenience. A stairway leads down both sides of the stern to the beach club and fold-down swim platform, which creates a generous outdoor area for sunbathing and lounging beside the sea.
The upper deck aft is furnished with a covered alfresco dining area and a sun-drenched aft section filled with three over-sized armchairs and a sofa around two coffee tables. The foredeck area is used for storing the water toys and tender, which are safely launched and retrieved using a Davit crane.
The sundeck offers an abundance of sunbathing space, with sun loungers along the aft section and the forward sunbeds surrounding the Jacuzzi tapering off into sofa seating near the centre. The alfresco dining and lounging area is placed under the shade of the hardtop, with flavoursome meals and drinks produced on the grill and at the bar.
The interiors from British studio Reymond Langton Design feature crisp white walls and teak decking, with accents in blue and green ranging in tone throughout the rooms to add character to each space.
The beach club is a wonderfully light and welcoming environment, offering guests and visitors a place to relax beside the water out of the sun. The bar will provide refreshments while guests take in the views from the two armchair/loungers, with a drinks table beside each for convenience.
In the main salon, the formal dining area consists of 10 plush chairs in white and cream detailing, surrounding a large table. The main salon aft features an aft-facing chaise-lounger and a sofa to port, with additional armchairs to create a cosy conversation area.

The skylounge has a serene atmosphere ideal for laidback conversation and winding down at the end of a busy day: A curving sofa and armchairs are placed around a coffee table, and a widescreen TV mounted on the wall will entertain along with the latest sound systems while drinks are served at the wet bar.
A pair of MTU 8V4000 M63 engines provide a top speed of 15 knot and a cruising speed of 13 knots, at which she is capable of a range of 3,800 nautical miles.
Yacht Accommodation
The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 10 guests over 5 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite and 4 further guest cabins. ~ Among the options for the Master suite, there is the option for a bright white room with band-like windows, a king-sized bed with a widescreen TV integrated into the opposite wall, and a sofa beneath the windows. ~ The crew complement has yet to be announced.

The most elevated dining experience in New York City has arrived: It will cost you $3,000 and is 1,250 feet in the sky. The private event space at One World Observatory is now available to book for a dinner for two, giving an opportunity for a romantic dinner with 360-degree views of NYC from the 102nd floor of the One World Trade Center. “We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience an evening on top of the world,” Amber King, senior director of special events at One World Observatory, told Food & Wine .  Aspire has historically been utilized for weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and corporate events. Now, for a starting price of $3,000, the 9,000-square-foot room with floor-to-ceiling windows can be reserved for just you and a plus one. “We offer a private escort to your experience, a curated playlist, a private culinary team and waitstaff, along with a bottle of Dom Pérignon and a pre-selected four-course meal of your choice with wine service,” King shared. “The venue will be adorned with red rose petals and an array of pillar candles to set the tone for a memorable evening.” If patrons want to raise the bar even more, Aspire offers add-on services for an additional fee.  “Up-lighting, extensive florals, a string quartet, personal photographer, upgraded bar service, a live singer/band, additional guests, a private tour guide, the list goes on,” King said. “All these elements are available for an upgraded rate, but can be completely managed and arranged by the events team.” According to Food & Wine, the private dining experience has just one table in the center of the large event space, and the meal is “personally designed and prepared” by Chef Reuel Vincent, who leads the kitchen at One Dine.  “My focus on New American cuisine takes inspiration from my Caribbean background as well as the influence of NYC being a melting pot of all cultures,” Chef Vincent told the outlet. “The emphasis on the varying flavors of NYC’s culinary scene is meant to complement the overall experience. By Editorial Team | 7th Sep 2016 Discover how the 56m/185ft motor yacht ‘My Seanna’ has transformed into one of the most opulent yachts on the charter market in YachtCharterFleet’s latest review.Originally launched in 2001 by US shipyard Delta Marine, 'My Seanna’ changed hands in 2013 before undergoing an extensive refit at Florida’s Rybovich Shipyard. Already a successful charter yacht, she emerged from the yard after 17 months having been elevated to a whole new level of luxury. Docked in the Antigua Yacht Club Marina, superyacht ‘My Seanna’ was unmissable as her metallic silver hull glistened in the Caribbean sunshine. Only those enlightened few, however, would know to look out for her newly lengthened aft facing decks. Indeed, at the heart of her refit was a 7.6 metre extension, allowing for expansive spaces across her three decks as well as a chic new beach club, which has proved to be an extremely popular daytime hub among charter guests. Built from scratch following the removal of the previous transom area, the beach club houses a 5.8 metre tender and two jet skis when underway before transforming into a contemporary waterside lounge at anchor, made possible by an upward opening garage door and overhead crane that smoothly launches the tender and toys.  White vertical wall panels interspersed with black grooves create a monochromatic backdrop to which teak flooring, dark timber storage and free standing wooden furniture is added. Charterers can sit back here with a refreshing drink from the wet bar and catch the big game on the widescreen television just metres away from the ocean. Disco balls, laser lights and the yacht’s extensive sound system can also convert the space into a sea-level disco, whereas a comfortable inflatable bed enables the area to serve as an additional cabin if required. A small set of steps leads up to the swim platform, fitted with Jet Ski stations and Opacmare transformer stairs for easy entry into the ocean, while a staircase on the port side of the beach club ascends directly to the main deck. Once enclosed by glass panelling, the aft deck is now completely open and offers an expansive social area. A U-shaped sofa aft can accommodate both cocktail and dinner parties thanks to adjustable tables, while the raised middle section of the deck forms a central island designed to offer enviable views of the surrounds.  From the aft deck, guests can enter the main salon through sliding glass doors and receive their first impression of the yacht’s classically styled interior from Joseph Leone. Italian white marble flooring is offset by rich wooden panelling, carved into regal pillars between the large, rectangular windows. A wing backed sofa and armchairs in luxurious cream fabrics form a lounge to port, while an oval lacquered table for 10 opposite is looked over by a glittering chandelier. Also catching the light are the accents of brushed 22 carat gold, adorning everything in sight from the walls, ceilings and furniture to the light fixtures, picture frames and cutlery. The gilding as well as the marble floors are present throughout the whole interior of charter yacht My Seanna, continuing the opulence and exquisite attention to detail. In a similar style to the main salon. the skylounge boasts rich wooden timbers and an expanse of windows. However, a large curved sofa upholstered in a damask patterned fabric takes centre stage alongside a state-of-the-art, 80-inch, curved TV for a more laid back, movie night setup. Also catching the light are accents of brushed 22 carat gold, adorning everything in sight  There is also an elegant bar and games table aft, which look out across the extremely spacious upper deck area, equipped for hosting large groups of people. A large alfresco dining table sits between two bars located on either side of the deck and multiple seating areas are scattered across the aft section. The sundeck above, meanwhile, provides the perfect setup for daytime relaxation. Chaise loungers and sumptuous deck chairs bedecked in pale yellow upholstery surround a newly installed oversized Jacuzzi with a swim-up bar on either side, a waterfall feature and LED lights. A drinks station and barbecue ensure guests never go thirsty or hungry, while a giant outdoor screen provides alfresco movie nights under the stars.  Two double cabins and two twin cabins fan out from the lower deck’s central lobby, while the reconfiguration of the sundeck has seen the addition of a new VIP suite, where two lucky guests will be treated to stunning panoramic views forward through oversized windows. And, indeed, she is sure to keep charter guests entertained. An approved RYA watersports centre, she is equipped with a vast collection of water toys and a resident personal trainer can tailor-make fitness programmes. It is clear to see that My Seanna offers much more than you would expect from a 56-metre superyacht. Her extensive deck areas are capable of hosting up to 150 guests quayside, and legal marriages and civil unions are even possible thanks to her Captain, Todd Lee, who is also a qualified pastor. Yet, at the same time, she also boasts intimate lounging areas where guests can unwind with loved ones and enough entertainment options to keep the whole family entertained. The possibilities are certainly endless on board M/Y My Seanna.  What’s more, a four-person sauna is located to port under the radar arch, which also offers shade to a variety of exercise equipment, and My Seanna’s outdoor delights do not end here. A staircase to starboard leads up to a secluded crow’s nest, a new addition following the 2014 refit. As well as outstanding views forward, the nest is home to an oversized sun pad surrounded by glass panels for privacy and safety, and a high-top table perfect for enjoying cocktails with a small group of friends or family. After a busy day on the water, guests will be able to retreat into the charter yacht’s elegant selection of staterooms which continue the exquisite attention to detail. The master suite spans across the forward section of the main deck, and features his and hers en suites with a large central Jacuzzi tub.
