Founded in 1775, the Royal Thames Yacht Club is the oldest continuously operating yacht club in the world as well as being the oldest royal yacht club. The Knightsbridge Clubhouse, overlooking Hyde Park is the perfect place for members and others to entertain and to hold a wide range of functions. Various rooms are available for hire and there are numerous set menus which can be selected for any level of function. Bespoke menus can also be created. Well isn't this posh? Really I ought to drop a star because this Yacht Club is not really near the Thames. But it's super posh, and if you're lucky enough to go to an event here you'll be surrounded with history, be offered excellent food and drink, and have a jolly good time. You also get quite a unique view of Hyde Park from the back of the place, and that in itself is kind of special :)

The Model Collection: Brief Notes and Catalogue
The Club’s collection of yacht models is one of the most extensive in the country and the half-model collection housed in the Model Room, just off the Britannia Bar, one of the most comprehensive in the world. Around the Clubhouse are models of the yachts of the 18th century Cumberland Fleet, warships from the days of sail and steam yachts from the Edwardian era. But it is in the Model Room itself that the heart of the collection resides: arranged in chronological order clockwise round the room and to common scale, the collection traces the history of yacht design from the mid-19th century to the present day. Along with the models there are photograph albums depicting many of the yachts under sail. A recently compiled catalogue of the collection is available in the Model Room to assist with identification and bound copies may be purchased for a nominal sum. St. Petersburg Yacht Club
Rich in history and tradition, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United States. Established in 1909 and having been completely renovated in the early 1990s, the Club is located on the beautiful waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. A gathering place for avid boaters, it is also one of Tampa Bay’s most prestigious social venues. The yacht club is famous for its standard of race management and events are run almost all year round. Juniors learn to sail. Sailors have represented the club all over the world.

St Petersburg’s city fathers had ambitious plans for their commercial docks: create waterfront parks and a yacht club. The St Petersburg Yacht Club was founded in 1909. Following the reclamation and completion of the waterfront, the clubhouse was inaugurated on its current site in 1917. Two years later, 6 Fish Class sailboats were acquired and one design racing began. Several classes have returned annually for over 60 years. Offshore racing started with the Havana Race in 1930. As forerunner of SORC, both brought sailors from all over the world to Tampa Bay.

Historical:
Cuilaun, sister ship to later built Talisker Mhor , was designed by George McGruer in 1969 and built and launched by Peel McGruer & Co., Clynder, Scotland in 1970. She has been owned by Brian Smullen, a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club, for 48 + years.
The big ketch is of a high bow, sturdy superstructure, and stout rig…a true blue-water-sailer. Cuilan has completed 12 transatlantic voyages and was the class winner in the 1979 Transatlantic Race. She has also been class winner at Antigua Classic Week, 2004, Parkinson Award, overall winner of the Solent based 2017 Panerai Classics Week, the Per Addua Ad Mare Trophy, and numerous other races.
