Robert Elmer “Bob” Meyer

Robert Elmer “Bob” Meyer, 89, a long-time resident of North Ogden, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, Clarissa, in Mountain Green, Utah.

His other daughter, Kathryn, was watchful of their home in North Ogden, where Bob had been active in church and community. Bob was dedicated to serving in the Eagle Scout Program. He was given a Silver Beaver award For Distinguished Service to Youth. Bob also served for many years as a member of the Kiwanis Club of North Ogden as well as his many callings to serve in his church in the North Ogden 7th Ward. Bob served an LDS Mission to Salt Lake City where he worked in the Family ancestry and history department.

Bob was born on January 11, 1935, in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, Minnesota, the middle of four children of Elmer Roger and Mable Roberts Meyer.

Bob graduated from high school in Brainerd. Bob enlisted in the United States Force in November of 1954, and served honorably until his discharge as an Airman First Class in September of 1958. With his GI Bill, Robert then attended University of North Dakota where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in chemical engineering and went on to pursue other studies professionally. He worked for an oil company there for a few years while attending college and after graduation. At the invitation of his good friend, Jerry Keech, Bob came to Utah to ski and completely fell in love with Utah. Bob transferred here and began working at Thiokol at Promontory Point where he worked for the bulk of his career. He became part of the minute man missile and many more missiles for the United States Air Force. He created a flare during Vietnam, this flare staid bright for a long period of time so the ground troops could see. Bob went on to work for NASA. He was part of the booster rocket that launched the space shuttle into space. Bob retired from the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama in 1994.

Bob met his sweetheart, Suzan Hales, at an after-ski party in Ogden Canyon. They courted and were married on June 13, 1964, at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Shortly afterward he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he and Suzan were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden Temple. They raised their two daughters together while, as a family, enjoyed outdoor recreation. They loved hiking, skiing, rafting, kayaking, and camping together.

Bob and Suzan enjoyed forty-five wonderful years together in North Ogden, Utah before losing his forever companion to Alzheimer’s disease in September of 2009. Bob was loving and caring and always serving.

Dad, we love and miss you very much, but we’re so grateful you’re reunited with our sweet and beautiful Mom in heaven. Robert was always a patriot and a community servant. He was regarded as a highly intelligent and equally compassionate man. Bob will be remembered for his generous nature, giving to anyone in need. For being a teacher and helping people that have had unique experiences they wouldn’t have had any other way. Goodbye for now, Bob and Suzan, until we are reunited again one day for time and all eternity.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Kathryn “Kathy” Meyer Judd of North Ogden. Clarissa “Crissy” Reese Muse-May and Robert Scot May, Mountain Green; grandchildren, Jordan Reese, Courtney May Brooks and husband Chase, with son Beckham, Kristen Lynn Muse, Ashley May with son Derek. Dylan Reese, Alexander Judd, Ryan Judd, Tyler and Rianna May, Maren Muse, Miya Muse, and Amacie Muse; Jack Denton Reese was met by his grandparents in heaven; sister, Lois “Jeannie” (Arthur) Nystrom, Brainerd, Minnesota; his niece, with whom he had a special relationship, Tina Meyer and husband Moses Maw. In addition to his wife, Suzan, Bob was preceded in death by his older sister, Geraldine “Gerry”; younger brother, William Louis “Bill” Meyer; son-in-law, William Jefferson Muse, Jr.; and by his dear grandson, Jack Denton Reese.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd., where military honors will be accorded.
