General Information & Marina Services

The port is made up of a natural bay defended by two breakwaters: the S. Lucia Quay and the Sant'Antonio Quay, the former has docks and is provided with mooring bollards and rings. The San Nicola Breakwater, to the north, reduces the silting up to which the port is subject to, which can reach up to 50 cm a year. All the internal docks have quays: the wharf of the Santa Lucia Quay, 48 m. long, with an upper surface area of about 1,400 sq. m is equipped to haul small craft with a maximum displacement of 500 t. and does not provide for cargo storage. The adjacent stretch of the Santa Teresa dock, 215 m long, is equipped for hauling fishing craft; the Seminario dock and part of the La Conca dock, 109 m. long, are reserved to the fishing fleet; the Piazza Quercia and Piazza Tiepolo docks, 450 m long, are reserved to pleasure craft. In this area there are floating jetties, for a total of 618 m, which allow the mooring of pleasure craft with an outboard length of up to 25 m, for a total of 600 crafts. A part of the said jetties is reserved to members of the local Section of the L.N.I.; the others are managed directly by the Town Council (municipal Dock) and are accessible free. The Regulations of use and the tariff schedule are approved by the Town Council. All places for boats, permanently moored or in transit, benefit from drinking water, electric points, continuous assistance and supervision. Finally, on the Sant'Antonio Quay, 60 m. from the end, to the left entering, there is the lighthouse: 5 sec. white light; 20 m. from the end is a fixed red light; on the San Nicola breakwater on the head, north side entering: a fixed green light. Craft entering and leaving must keep 40 m. leeway from the said green light.

Watch as a yacht docked at this N.J. Shore marina catches fire during refueling

A yacht being refueled at a Wildwood marina on Thursday afternoon was heavily damaged in a blaze.

The fire broke out on a 40-foot yacht at the Schooner Island Marina, according to on-scene reports. It remains under investigation, first responders said.

An eyewitness said the yacht was refueling at the time the fire started. The McKee Group, a Pennsylvania-based developer that owns the marina, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Billowing clouds of smoke were still visible around 2 p.m. as police and fire officials responded to the incident. According to local police at the scene, New Jersey State Police are handling the investigation.

Schooner Island Marina, a where visitors can find restaurants and fishing excursions was filled with patrons watching from afar Thursday afternoon.

Susquehanna Avenue was blocked off near the marina, detouring traffic around emergency fire trucks and ambulances.Firehouses snaked through the marina’s parking lot, creating an obstacle for bystanders.

Paul Daiber, who stores his boat at the marina, was fishing at the end of the deck opposite from where the boat that caught fire was moored.

In 25 years of keeping his vessel there, he’s never seen a boat explode in person.

“It’s scary,” Daiber, 56, said sitting on a pick truck hatch about 200 yards from the emergency scene.

At the end of the dock, Daiber said he heard an explosion, describing it as a powerful thud and turned around to the boat on fire.

Debris of the vessel were sent into the air and onto nearby docks, Daiber said.

Meanwhile, bystanders raced to find fire extinguishers. Once firefighters arrived, crews tried dousing the blaze that turned into an inferno seen from across the marina, he said.

Blocks away, beach goers snapped photos of plumes that towered over the island and were pushed by winds.

“It just progressively got worse and worse until it erupted in flames,” Daiber said.

No further information from officials has been released at this time.

The beginning of the end nationwide manhunt for Massachusetts fugitive rape suspect Stephen Paul Gale happened at a marina in the Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles.

That's where Gale was found, sources tell 5 Investigates, aboard a massive luxury boat named The Dior anchored at Seacoast Yachts when police closed in.

Police believe Gale suspected he was being watched when he got in his car on Aug. 8 and fled, taking police on an hour-and-a-half-long chase captured by news cameras that ended with his arrest outside the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

marina yachting trani

The nationwide hunt for Gale started last year after forensic genetic genealogy identified him as the man who raped two women working at a Hit or Miss retail store in Framingham in 1989. The Middlesex County District Attorney announced he was indicted on the rape and kidnapping charges in May.

stephen gale was living on the dior, the largest boat in the seacoast yachts marina. sources told 5 investigates.

The case reopened after a public plea from the two survivors for justice.

Gale's past includes running afoul of the law decades ago in Los Angeles — one charge going back to 1984, when Gale stole more than $31,000 from another man. After several years on the run and a stint in federal prison on a different charge, he finally pled guilty to the 1984 LA theft in 1991. But there is no record in the courts of his ever appearing before another judge for sentencing, suggesting that case is still open.

Then, in a separate case, he was charged in Los Angeles in 1996 with forging checks worth about $15,000. That case also appears to be open.

Trani, italy: all you need to know for the perfect visit.

Trani Italy view

Sparkling blue sea, a stunning cathedral, and the laid-back atmosphere Italy does so well. These are some of the many reasons to visit Trani, Puglia’s ‘pearl of the Adriatic’.

The small town of Trani doesn’t appear on standard Italy itineraries .

Located on the coast of Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot, it only attracts tourists who love going off the beaten track and not even many of them, nearby Alberobello and Lecce usually stealing the spotlight.

Trani, however, is a treat and those who do make it here leave with their eyes full of unforgettable images of Mediterranean splendor.

This is our essential guide to Trani, Italy, the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’

What is special about Trani Italy

Trani is a small coastal town in the Italian region of Puglia, in the South-East of Italy.

It has a pleasant marina, a lovely town center and it is made special by a gorgeous Duomo (Trani cathedral) that dates back to 1143 and is one of the best examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture .

Perched on the seashore, the Trani cathedral is made of cream-colored limestone, it has a distinctive bell tower and its simple silhouette stands out against the sparkling blues sea like a summer vision of architectural perfection.

Among these many reasons to visit Trani, the duomo tops my list and makes Trani one of my favorite places to visit in Italy .

Where is Trani and how to get there

Trani is a seaside town in Puglia, the region of Italy forming the heel of the Italian boot.

The nearest big city is Bari which is also the closest airport.

The easiest way to get to Trani is by private car but you can also get there by train or bus.

Trains to Trani depart regularly from Bari, with several options during the week and fewer at the weekend. The journey takes 40 min to an hour, depending on the train. You can get tickets here .

Several buses also connect Bari to Trani and the journey takes about 45 minutes. You can find the timetable and prices here .

Driving in Italy scares many but I found driving around Puglia very easy and convenient. If you are unsure about tackling Italian roads, you can find my best tips for driving in Italy here .

When we took our Southern Italy road trip we rented a car from Avis car rental but Hertzs and Maggiore also serve the area. You can find all the prices and compare offers here.

Parking in Trani is pay and display: follow the signs for the duomo and you will easily find several parking options (on-street)

How long for visiting Trani?

Trani is a compact town and you can visit easily taking a day trip from Bari or any other nearby location you may be using as a base.

Top tip : If you are coming to Trani on a day trip from Bari, store your luggage in Bari with LuggageHero and avoid dragging bags around!

What there is to see in Trani?

There are several things to see in Trani and the surrounding area. In town, the main ones are the cathedral, the marina, the city park and the castle.

Cattedrale di Trani (Trani cathedral)

Trani’s jewel in the crown is Trani cathedral for which, you may have noticed, I have a soft spot.

The cathedral is in honor of San Nicola Pellegrino (Nicholas the Pilgrim) and dates back to the 12th century (1143 to be precise).

It is famous for being a great example of Romanesque architecture however, the first and main thing about it is its position.

The cathedral is right on the seafront and occupies the spot where you would usually see a lighthouse, rather than a religious building!

This seafront location is peculiar yet intentional: local knowledge reports that the cathedral was built to be a guiding light for the population of Trani and so the lighthouse reference is an appropriate metaphor for this role.

The cathedral is made of a local stone called ‘Pietra di Trani’ (Trani’s stone) and has a distinctive cream color and texture that create a wonderful chromatic effect beside the deep blue of the Adriatic sea.

If you see nothing else in Trani, come to the cathedral: it is truly unforgettable.

Top tip: the best spot for catching views of the Trani cathedral is the so- called ‘fortino’ – see below how to get there!

Trani’s Marina

Trani has a gorgeous little marina and fishing port sandwiched between the city park and the cathedral.

This sleepy port is lovely: the best way to enjoy it is to take a walk along its seafront, take in the colorful boats bobbing over its calm waters and stop for a drink in one of the many waterside cafes and restaurants.

Trani Italy: marina with boats and Trani cathedral in teh background

‘Il Fortino’

Il fortino (lit. the small fort’) lies above Trani’s marina and it is the best place for views over the city port and the cathedral.

You access it from the park and it is a place of strong visual impact: made of the same cream stone as the cathedral, you walk along a large walkaway that quickly opens up above the marina and the cathedral at the back.

The walkaway is battered by the sun and this, plus the views you get from here, makes you feel like you are enveloped by Mediterranean splendor to such as extent, you may find yourself in need of minute to process the beauty in front of you!

Trani city park

Trani has a lovely city park worth visiting. It is located just along the seafront and it is a wonderful green space to escapes the sun and catch beautiful views over the Adriatic sea.

The park has nice trees, benches, a lovely playground for kids and some nice sculptures.

Trani castle (Castello Svevo di Trani)

As well as the cathedral Trani flaunts a nice castle, dating back to the 1200s.

Built by order of Frederick the II, like nearby Castel del Monte , it was an important center of power of the Frederician court and then hosted the Angio’ and Aragona families, which makes it a good place to learn about the history of the city.

Il fortino in Trani, Italy

Palazzo Antonacci Telesio

As we strolled with our nose in the air along the roads at the back of the marina, we came across a gorgeous palace that seemed right out of the Leopard.

A vision of decadent Southern Italian splendor, I discovered that it was an important building called Palazzo Antonacci Telesio and dating back to 1761.

The palazzo now hosts a museum of carriages. which we didn’t visit. The outside is, however, worth a stop – if you follow us on Instagram you may have seen it on your stories already!

How to visit Trani and Trani itinerary

The best way to visit Trani is on foot.

We left the car in front of the park and we were able to easily walk everywhere (even with children in tow).

Trani is a small city and you don’t need an itinerary to visit. However, we did find following a lop park – fortino – marina – cathedral- castle -palazzo worked great.

Where to stay in Trani

Trani makes a lovely overnight stop and while we did not stay, we spotted several cute places right near the marina.

Naples Yacht Club Opens After Hurricane Destruction

Pelican Isle Yacht Club in Naples, Florida, is one of the first marinas in the southwest Florida area to cut the ribbon on a newly renovated campus after being destroyed by Hurricane Ian in 2022.

A complete restoration of the marina included 190 boat slips, with 120 being floating concrete able to accommodate vessels up to 55 feet, and the remaining slips being fixed timber with lifts, ranging from 40 to 55 feet. The project also replaced nearly 1,500 feet of seawall and brought some fixed timber docks up a couple of feet from their legacy elevation to match the seawall cap.

Like so many other marinas, finding themselves in the path of Hurricane Ian came as a surprise to Pelican Isle.

marina yachting trani

“There is only so much preparation you can do for a catastrophic event, even in the best circumstances,” said Ali Feezor, general manager of Pelican Isle Yacht Club. “Having a good recovery plan is critical.” The marina was at about 60% occupancy during landfall, with many boats still in the slips.

“Our entire property was under 5 to 10 feet of water,” Feezor said. “All of the fixed docks’ electrical utilities were completely submerged. All the floating docks came completely off the pilings. Gangways had sheared off at the seawall or at their access point on the dock. Boats wound up on shore, some submerged, some wedged between docks, some untouched. Our insurance company said the docks were a total loss.”

Pelican Isle called on Bellingham Marine to act as the general contractor with Kelly Brothers Inc. on board as the marine contractor to perform the installation. Bellingham came out in October, shortly after the storm.

“[Bellingham] was the original contractor in 1996,” Feezor said. “We used them for regular maintenance, so we had a good relationship. They were down here right away; didn’t waste any time.”

Feezor said that the marina made a conscious effort to improve resiliency, opting for 50-foot steel piles with HDPE sleeves instead of the legacy 40-foot concrete piles. Matching the fixed dock elevations with the seawall cap brought the electrical components a little higher and away from the water. The yacht club also brought the lift controllers and motors a little higher and integrated the pilings into the finger piers to minimize the marina footprint.

Feezor was grateful to the yacht club members who made the renovation possible. “Our members re-invested in our marina,” she said, “allowing us to complete this major project in just 20 months.”

The marina received its certificate of completion from Collier County in June. Feezor also expressed her gratitude to the contractors for their professionalism and experience. “They did everything you could ask for, especially on a project of this magnitude,” she said.

Yachting in Florida: Essential Safety Requirements and a $150 Ticket-Saving Tip

Florida is a boater’s paradise, with endless coastlines, beautiful islands, and year-round sunshine. Whether you’re cruising through the crystal-clear waters of the Keys, exploring the mangroves of the Gulf Coast, or navigating the bustling Intracoastal Waterway, yachting in Florida is an experience like no other. But before you set sail, it’s crucial to ensure that your vessel is stocked with the necessary safety equipment as required by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Here’s a fun and informative guide to what you should have on your boat at all times to keep your yachting adventures safe and sound, plus a tip to avoid a $150 ticket:

1. Life Jackets (Personal Flotation Devices)

Let’s start with the basics—life jackets! The Coast Guard requires that you have a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket for each person on board. Here’s a pro tip that could save you $150: If you’re out on the water with extra passengers, make sure the life jackets are not just stashed away, but also out and unbuckled. You might think you have plenty of time in an emergency, but in reality, you have approximately 60 seconds to react if your boat starts sinking. If you were to pull out all the life jackets and try to put them on people during that time, it wouldn’t be enough. And, if the Coast Guard boards your vessel and sees that the life jackets are not out and unbuckled, it could result in a $150 ticket. So, keep them visible and ready to go!

2. Fire Extinguishers

Nothing says “safety first” like having a fire extinguisher on board. Boats with enclosed engine compartments or fuel tanks are required to have at least one B-I type fire extinguisher. Depending on the size of your yacht, you may need more than one. Check your extinguishers regularly to ensure they’re in working order—because when it comes to fires, you don’t want to be left high and dry.

3. Visual Distress Signals

Visual distress signals (VDS) are a must-have for any yachting adventure. These include flares, orange smoke signals, or distress flags. The Coast Guard requires that you have day and night signals on board, especially if you’re venturing more than a few miles from shore. Keep these in a dry, easily accessible location—you never know when they might come in handy.

4. Sound-Producing Devices

Boats are required to carry sound-producing devices, such as a horn, bell, or whistle, to signal your presence to other vessels. These devices are crucial for preventing collisions, especially in busy waterways. Plus, who doesn’t love the satisfying blast of a good boat horn? It’s like the yacht’s way of saying, “Hello, world!”

5. Navigation Lights

If you’re planning to cruise after dark (or during low visibility), you’ll need to have functioning navigation lights on your vessel. These lights help other boaters see you and understand your direction, reducing the risk of accidents. Make sure your lights are in working order before you set out—it’s not just a requirement, but a good way to avoid playing bumper boats at night.

6. Firearm and Weapon Regulations

Florida’s waters are all about fun, but safety and responsibility come first, especially if you have firearms or weapons on board. If you do carry firearms, ensure they are securely stored and comply with Florida’s laws and Coast Guard regulations. Safety courses are highly recommended if you plan to have firearms while yachting.

7. First Aid Kit

Every boat should have a well-stocked first aid kit on board. From seasickness remedies to bandages and antiseptic wipes, having these essentials can turn a potential yachting mishap into a minor hiccup. Consider adding sunscreen and aloe vera to your kit—Florida’s sun can be relentless, and you’ll thank yourself later.

8. Marine VHF Radio

While you might have a cell phone on board, a marine VHF radio is a much more reliable way to communicate on the water, especially in remote areas. It allows you to contact the Coast Guard and other vessels in case of emergency. Make sure you know how to use it—because when you’re out at sea, it’s your lifeline.

9. Anchor and Line

An anchor might not seem like an exciting piece of equipment, but it’s essential. Whether you’re stopping for a swim or need to secure your vessel in a sudden storm, having the right anchor and sufficient line is key. Make sure your anchor is the appropriate size for your yacht, and practice deploying it so you can do so quickly if needed.

10. Boat Registration and Documentation

Finally, don’t forget the paperwork! Your yacht must be properly registered with the state of Florida, and you need to have the registration documents on board at all times. If your vessel is over five net tons, you’ll also need a Certificate of Documentation from the Coast Guard. Keep these documents in a safe, dry place—no one wants to be caught without them during a routine inspection.

Final Thoughts

Yachting in Florida is all about enjoying the open water, the sunshine, and the incredible scenery—but safety should always be your top priority. By following these Coast Guard requirements and keeping your life jackets out and ready, you’ll ensure that your yachting adventures are not only fun but also secure. Plus, you’ll avoid that $150 ticket, leaving you with more to spend on your next adventure! So, double-check your safety gear, and enjoy the waves knowing you’re prepared for anything that comes your way!

The Marina is easily accessible by CAR, by TRAIN and by PLANE. For those arriving by car, from the South: on the A2 del Mediterraneo exit Pontecagnano. From the North: on the A30 and A1 exit Salerno-Fratte. From there, take the Salerno ring road and exit 4-Mariconda. A large parking area is available inside the Marina. For those arriving by train, we recommend getting off at the FS Salerno Centrale station, served by high-speed trains. The Marina is connected to the station by light rail, "Stadio Arechi" stop. Otherwise, buses are available: lines 5 and 24 Busitalia Campania. For those arriving by plane, the Marina is only 14 kilometers from Salerno "Costa d'Amalfi" airport, dedicated to general aviation. Capodichino International Airport with scheduled flights is 67 kilometers away. Every day at 2 pm the connection by ship Salerno-Messina is active, an excellent idea also for customers who choose to experience the one way charter between our two bases in Southern Italy!
