![]() Palm Beach Motor Yachts enters superyacht realm and announces new flagship yacht PB85Australian yacht builder Palm Beach Motor Yachts has announced its new 27.6-metre flagship known as Palm Beach 85 (PB85). A statement from the yard said: "Entering the superyacht realm is a natural progression for Palm Beach Motor Yachts, the acclaimed builder established by ocean-racing champion and performance yacht builder, Mark Richards. The Palm Beach 85 (PB85) is designed to surpass all industry standards in luxury, onboard comfort and performance, elevating the brand's custom offerings to a new level." A key focus of the PB85 is comfortable crew well-being with spacious living quarters as well as well-appointed living areas. The main deck is characterised by a convenient and sociable single-level living and entertaining space, including the saloon, which stretches from the forward helm station to the covered cockpit. Meanwhile, a generous aft deck offers exceptional views and easy access to the water. Located amidships, the full-beam owner's stateroom boasts a king-size bed, ensuite bathroom, ample storage and large windows. PB85 is constructed using Palm Beach's proprietary V-Warp Technology, a design and construction philosophy developed through Richards' experience as an ocean-racing champion and performance yacht designer. With the aim of enhancing overall performance, the hull is fused directly to the carbon fibre structure, bulkheads, deck and superstructure of the vessel. Key features of the V-Warp Technology hull include a fine entry, a graceful curvature amidships and minimal deadrise at the transom, helping to reduce drag while adding buoyancy, stability and lift. Speaking of the PB85, Richards said: "The Palm Beach 85 represents a dream achieved. When I was a young man working on the docks in Sydney, I would watch the yachts cruising through the harbour and knew that one day I'd do the same on my own boat. When the Palm Beach 85 splashes, she'll be the largest yacht we've built and will represent a new level of luxury, fuel efficiency and performance in the yachting industry.” He continued: "At Palm Beach, we’re constantly improving, innovating, pushing ourselves and exceeding industry expectations - the PB85 is the result of countless hours of hard work by our entire team. I am extremely proud of what we’ve been able to achieve." ![]() More storiesMost popular, from our partners, sponsored listings. Focus Motor Yachts reveals the highly anticipated new Focus Power 44.We are delighted to announce the release of our magnificent new focus power 44, engineered to deliver the ultimate in recreational flexibility. handcrafted. world‑class.. The Focus Power 44 is one of the world’s most versatile sports cruisers. With its combination of performance, refinement and layout flexibility, it is as attractive to cruising couples as it is to large families - and as comfortable for guests as it is for owners. ![]() Leisure-friendly cockpit The Power 44 dedicates more than 50% of its length to the external cockpit. That cockpit is organised around a broad, single-level walkway, which runs all the way from the swim platform steps to the helm station, creating plenty of space for a galley to port, as well as an expansive seating area to starboard. At the forward end of the seating arrangement, a two-man helm station enjoys 360-degree visibility, alongside a large chart table and optional joystick control for stress-free navigation and easy close-quarters manoeuvres. Aft of that, a luxurious six-man dining station backs onto a three-man sun lounger that extends out over the swim platform, so you can relax in the sun, soak in the view or prepare for a ski in comfort. The retractable hardtop also plays a key part in the Power 44’s new cockpit. With its oversized sliding glass sunroof, it enables you to opt either for the shelter and refinement of an all-weather coupe or for the natural light, fresh breeze and salty air of a Med-style open day boat. ![]() Cruise-ready accommodation The Power 44 can be configured in whatever way suits your lifestyle. Finished in muted oaks and well lit by long hull windows and overhead skylights, you can spec it with two ensuite staterooms or with three cabins and either one or two bathrooms. In all cases, you get full standing headroom throughout, alongside plenty of storage and a full-beam central saloon. In addition to its six-man dinette and fully equipped galley, the positioning of the lounge area provides a natural separation zone between the master suite and the guest accommodation for the utmost privacy during an extended cruise. In short, whether for sunbathing, dining, watersports or passage making, the new Focus Power 44 is one of the most complete sports cruising solutions in its class. Our CEO is understandably upbeat about the new model: “ The FP44 enables you to live virtually any kind of yachting life you like. With its intelligently conceived lower deck options, its variety of main deck entertaining spaces and its ‘inside-outside’ flexibility, it’s a paragon of modern sports cruiser design. ” - ![]() Focus Motor Yachts2 weeks ago ![]() Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linked In Share by Email 1 month ago ![]() Luxury sales are flattening amid a self-inflicted creativity crisis and price hikes, study findsThe post-pandemic surge in global sales of luxury handbags, shoes and apparel is on pace to stall this year amid a creativity crisis and price hikes focused on the biggest spending customers MILAN — The post-pandemic surge in global sales of luxury handbags, shoes and apparel is set to stall this year amid a creativity crisis and price hikes as brands shift focus to the biggest spending customers, a new study by the Bain consultancy said Tuesday. Bain is forecasting flat worldwide luxury sales in 2024 following a slight first-quarter dip, according to the study commissioned by the Altagamma association. The consultancy cited political uncertainty during a presidential election year in the United States as well as economic uncertainty in China that has brought on a phenomenon of “luxury shaming.” Beyond socioeconomic factors and rising geopolitical tensions, the slowdown is also partly “self-inflicted,’’ said Bain partner Claudia D’Arpizio. She cited a “creativity crisis,’’ in the sector, as a number of major fashion houses are transitioning creative directors, and a new focus on the super-wealthy customers, at the expense of the aspirational middle class and Gen-Z youngsters who fueled growth before the pandemic. “There is a lack of clarity for many of these brands. They are making attempts to regain focus. It is five, six brands under turn-around, big ones. This is not helping the overall excitement,’’ D’Arpizio told The Associated Press. “This is a supply-driven industry. When you have the brands really in tune with customer needs, it usually reacts quickly.’’ She said some “tweaks” are needed on strategy and price points, adding that “you can’t grow without the middle class and younger generations.” Among major fashion houses, Gucci and Moschino have made runway debuts of their new creative directions, while the first Valentino collection by the new creative director hits the runway in September. Chanel has the position to fill after the incumbent resigned earlier this month. While inflation is one element of price hikes, D’Arpizio said brands are also refocusing on the estimated 6 million to 8 million consumers at the top of the pyramid as they search for better profit margins. At the same time, there has been less rejuvenation in the offerings. Steep price increases for items that don’t show significant innovation, and feel like something they have seen before, leaves customers “upset and puzzled.” Flat global luxury sales forecasts follow a pent-up post-pandemic spending surge that pushed sales during the 2021-23 period up 24% over 2019 levels. Last year, sales of personal luxury goods grew by 4% to 362 billion euros (about $388 billion) from 349 euros in 2022, due largely to a resurgence of U.S. and Asian tourism to Europe fueling purchases. Add in luxury travel, fine art, cars and yachts, the vast global luxury market expanded to 1.5 trillion euros last year — highlighting a trend toward experiences over tangible goods. Japan is a bright spot as the return of foreign tourists with the yen at the lowest level to the U.S. dollar in 20 years, while Europe continues strong trends due to tourist spending and an increase in local consumption, especially in French and Italian cities. ![]() China's key plenum aims to fix decades-old tax revenue imbalance

![]() Deal activity in the media and telecommunications sector in the first four months of 2024 remained “constrained by the prolonged impact of higher interest rates and uncertain regulatory dynamics,” top accounting and consulting services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers said in a Thursday report. Related StoriesSkyshowtime's spanish content has "resonated globally" despite demand for local audiences, ian mckellen cancels final 'player kings' performances after falling off london stage. One stat it highlighted is the fact that 39 percent of the disclosed deal value in the media and telecom sector since the second quarter of 2023 was driven by two megadeals: the $27 billion stock merger between Dish Network and EchoStar Corp. and Silver Lake’s take‑private deal for Endeavor , which valued the company at $13 billion with an enterprise value of $25 billion. Despite the broader dealmaking downturn, “the sector continues to attract interest as market players continue to evaluate ways to refine their strategies and infrastructure to meet evolving consumer demands,” PwC argued, pointing to a return of private equity buyers as one factor that could come into play in the near future. “After being sidelined by higher borrowing costs, private equity investors are eager to get back into the game and have shown a renewed interest executing megadeals in the sector,” the firm explained. PwC also pointed to the likes of TikTok, generative AI , the emergence of streaming bundles, and other factors affecting media, entertainment, and telecom firms and possible dealmaking. “Shortform user-generated content platforms have continued to eat into traditional viewing habits, with platforms like TikTok leading the way,” the PwC report highlighted. “Streaming platforms will continue to evolve their suite of content, leveraging bundled offerings, joint ventures, and partnerships to share rising content costs while both promoting subscriber stickiness and curating larger audiences to drive advertising revenue.” And generative AI is “starting to dramatically impact the ad tech market,” PwC emphasized. “It’s significantly reducing the cost and time required to bring new ad campaigns to market.” What about potential dealmaking in the streaming sector? “Players in the streaming space are exploring new avenues ranging from consolidation and bunding to new offerings, including video games and live sports, to entice consumers to stay within their ecosystem,” PwC wrote. “In a period of inflation, consumers have the upper hand, and we expect they will continue to be drawn to platforms they perceive as providing the best value. To support average revenue per user (ARPU) and limit customer churn, streaming platforms will need to maintain a focus on providing subscribers a compelling value proposition.” At the same time, PwC said, “we expect regulators and technology platform changes will continue to present obstacles to deal execution in the sector.” Looking ahead, the consultancy doesn’t expect much to change over the near term. “With the upcoming presidential election looming in the background, we expect potential dealmakers will remain cautious and postpone their evaluations of more transformative transactions until there is less uncertainty around regulations and what the future will hold,” PwC concluded. “In the meantime, we expect buyers will remain vigilant of shifting consumer behaviors, so they’re poised to act when the M&A market eventually turns.” Plus, “leveraging economies of scale should lead to increased profitability,” Spiegel highlighted. “As platforms evolve and mature, additional factors may motivate mergers and acquisitions, such as rising costs of sports rights, advancements in advertising technology supporting AVOD, and integration of video game offerings.” Could the rise of streaming bundles impact M&A activity? The PwC expert says that major partnerships and bundles are “highly attractive to consumers and could offer significant value,” even if pricing and other details are in most cases still to be detailed. “These collaborations may reduce the likelihood of headline-grabbing, transformative M&A,” said Spiegel. “However, market players excluded from these arrangements may struggle with managing churn and average revenue per user as customers prioritize value perception. This exclusion could drive consolidation among these entities as they strive to maintain relevance and scale.” THR NewslettersSign up for THR news straight to your inbox every day More from The Hollywood ReporterKhloé kardashian to launch video podcast on x (exclusive), epic universe unveils universal classic monsters-themed attractions in orlando, brit marling, zal batmanglij ink creative partnership with sister, canal+ boosts stake in asian streamer viu, the man who helps the stars come out, shari redstone goes for broke: can paramount pick up the pieces.
