TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF

5-Star Reviews!

5 star review

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless.

Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless. This company and the entire team could not have been more helpful! We live in the USA and never had a problem with communication. The Catamaran we selected was the Lagoon 450F. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and easy to live on for a week as we sailed to beautiful beaches.

The Ionian Islands we visited were breathtaking, especially Kefalonia – it was our favorite! Above all, the feeling of safety that Captain George ensured throughout our trip made our journey even more memorable. We can’t wait to experience it again.

So, if you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing experience around the Greek Islands with a professional company and a knowledgeable and friendly guide, look no further!

The Great Greek Adventure

We have seen many islands thanks to Yannis, who has an unsurpassed knowledge of the, and we might add amazing docking skills! Matoula has been an amazing hostess, a wonderful cook and always gracious with a beautiful attitude. We will never forget our Great Adventure!

A safe pair of hands, experience and unlimited knowledge.

We’ve just spent a week sailing the Greek islands with Captain Yiannis. If your looking for a safe pair of hands, experience and unlimited knowledge of the Greek islands then Yiannis is the captain you need.

Jeff Brown May 10th 2019

Great knowledge of the area and its history.

Excellent week of sailing in the Greek Islands with Yiannis. He has great knowledge of the area and its history. He showed us unique beaches and key sites on the islands. A memorable week of adventure, drama, and weather. A great first visit to the country of Greece and its islands. Recommend Yiannis as a skipper and guide for your trip.

David and Suzanne Kelly September 25, 2021

The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.

We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering it on occasion. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’d definitely recommend exploring it.

Christine August 22, 2021

Yannis is a superb captain

First and foremost, Yannis is a superb captain. He is a true professional and puts the comfort and safety of the guests first. We had a superb week and thanks to the knowledge of Yannis we visited hidden beaches and places that were sublime. Yannis is passionate about sailing, and we all improved our sailing skills and learned about sailing this magical part of the world.

We cannot wait to return and know that Captain Yannis is our go-to Greek master of the seas.”

Kim Cornwall and friends October 14, 2021

The best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

My friends and I had a terrific sailing trip with Cpt. Yiannis. We sailed islands from Athens to Milos for a week. [...] Captain Yiannis was not only an outstanding skipper, but he also is a very knowledgeable tour guide. [...] Also, he had tremendous knowledge of any island we stopped on the way and recommended the best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

The captain was very professional and sailed extremely safe and responsible. Great guy, a great captain, thank you, Captain Yiannis!

Remis – Boston, USA June 26, 2021

Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht

We had a wonderful week of sailing in the Saronic Gulf end of August. Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht for this bareboat charter trip . Together with the charter company we felt us in very good hands, for all questions we had. Except in this year 2020, with these special conditions!

Thanks Yiannis.

Vacation in Greece with a sailing yacht

What is your ideal vacation.

Does it involve sailing on beautiful seas, feeling sunshine and warm wind on your face, and immersing yourself in rich cultural sights?

Travel to the Greek Islands , and see Greece the way it was meant to be seen from the sea, while an experienced sailing team does all the work. This leaves you free to sail through the islands while you relax and enjoy all of the experiences and sights that Greece has to offer.

Ready for an exciting and carefree trip to the Greek Islands?

Keep reading to find out why sailing with Greece On Board is the best way to make your dream trip come true.

Why Greece?

Greece has some of the best waters for sailing in the world. The beauty of sailing the Greek seas, traveling from island to island, fills the five senses. It offers you idyllic views, blue seas, and geographic and historic riches.

Visit endless sandy beaches, private rocky coves, and quaint Greek villages. Feel the warm wind on your face, taste the authentic flavors of the country, and experience the genuine friendliness of the Greek people and the richness of Greek culture.

See the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets and fill your days with seaside memories you will never forget.

Charter a Sailing Yacht in Greece

We know that Greece is a fabulous destination. But, why charter a sailing yacht or catamaran?

Build Your Own Itinerary

Sailing yachts are your luxury transportation and accommodations on the sea, with the ability to build your own itinerary. You can wake up in a new place each day or spend several days in the same picturesque place. It’s all up to you.

Greece on Board offers 7-and-15-day itineraries.

Good for a Range of Travelers

Another reason sailing yachts are a great choice is that they cater to a wide range of people. Whether you are a beginner sailor or an experienced one, if you prefer to be active or to take things slow, chartering a sailing yacht is an excellent choice. Families, couples, friends, and adventurers-it’s an unforgettable experience no matter the size or interests of your group.

Your Own Skipper and Team

The best reason to charter a sailing yacht is that you can see the Greek islands from a private vessel with your own skipper and experienced team. You just have to relax and enjoy the ride.

It’s an Immersive Experience

There is nothing like sailing on the Greek seas. Let the skipper and his crew harness the wind and take you from one breathtaking island to the next.

Sailing by wind is one of the purest experiences in life. Our sailing vessels not only provide transportation but a full, immersive travel experience that offers our guests a deep connection to nature and the sea. No engine noise or rumbling, just following the ebbs and flows of the water around us and the wind that guides us, lulling our guests into a state of relaxation and happiness.

Sailing Destinations

Greece on Board offers a variety of destinations on your 7-or-15-day private sailing yacht sailing trip. Some of the island destinations might be changed because of weather or sea conditions, but your skipper has the experience of knowing when to adjust course if necessary. Here are some of the wonderful places we have the possibility of visiting.

The Saronic Gulf

The Saronic Gulf is a body of water nestled between mainland Greece and the Southern Peloponnese, a short sail from Athens.

An ideal place to sail for people looking for a relaxing, easy sailing vacation, the Saronic Gulf offers calm waters, natural beauty, and beautiful historical and waterfront sites.

There are many beautiful places to visit on the Peloponnesian coastline in addition to many picturesque islands in the Saronic Gulf. We highly recommend including Hydra, Spetses, and Poros.

The Cyclades

A sailing trip to the Cyclades offers a trip through the pearls of the Aegean and some of the most visited destinations in Greece.

There is a reason people love the Cyclades . The architectural scenery of white-washed houses, hilltop churches, and idyllic villages dazzles the eyes. There are unlimited beaches, coves, and blue waters to explore.

While the water conditions in the Cyclades are sometimes rough during July and August, it might be enjoyable for more experienced sailors.

Some of the islands that the Greece on Board team can include in your Cycladic itinerary are:

What’s Included?

“We had a great time in Greece”

We had a great time in Greece, the first three days we had constant 20-25knots of wind, so we were able to do a lot of sailing. The boat was also in good condition and everything in working order…the boat did however look a bit older than a 2018 mode…

“Incredible experience”

Incredible experience. We spent a week in Greece on a cabin charter and every day was more enjoyable than the last. The locations were stunning, the skipper was super knowledgeable, and the boat itself was a blast. Can't wait to book again.

“Our trip was fantastic!”

Our trip was fantastic, beyond expectations. Our skipper, Peter Papageorgiou, was the best, also.

Greece Yacht Charters

Greece is a country in Southeast Europe, which is located in the Balkans. The country is embossed in four seas: the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea, the Cretan Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea . Due to its advantageous location, Greece possesses one of the longest coastlines in the world. This outstanding feature makes the country an incredibly famous sailing destination. Beautiful golden beaches along the island, emerald transparent waters, pine forests in the mountains, and extremely pleasant weather will not leave any sailor indifferent. Deciding to charter a shining yacht, you make an investment in unforgettable memories and the desire to come back as a matter of course.

The reasons for which one must visit Greece are difficult to count as it has a lot to offer for everyone. Rich history, glorious past, impressive ancient buildings, delicious food and wine, an abundance of celebrations and festivals are waiting for you to explore the picturesque region. The pristine nature of Athens, Volos, Corfu, Kavala, and other Greek cities and perfect weather conditions create an ideal opportunity to rent a boat and melt into the pleasure.

Sailing Conditions in Greece

Being situated in Southeast Europe, Greece welcomes sailors from around the globe to feel all the benefits of the Mediterranean climate. Hot and dry summers with rare precipitation and clear skies provide a good opportunity for yacht rental without any fear of possible rains and extreme winds. The average temperature during the summer period never drops below 20 ºC even at night. It is impossible to miss such great weather and not to go far in the sea on your sailboat to enjoy the 30 ºC heat in the daytime. Greek winters are usually colder, especially in those areas that are close to mountains. But they are not lingering and not so cold to somehow disturb dedicated sailors. The sailing season usually starts in March and continues up to November, bringing different sailing conditions to the island.

Best Times for Vacation in Greece

Having an intention to make the most of your sailboat vacation in the breathtaking destination, it is necessary to get acquainted with the weather conditions of the desired period. As a rule, the peak season of sailing occurs in the summer months and up to the end of September . This time features extremely high air and water temperature and a huge number of sailors even in the remote marinas. By the way, Greek summers are an ideal time for those who are ready to forget about sleep and party the whole night. One of the most important things to consider is that in July, the northern wind Meltemi comes to the shore and creates many hazardous obstacles for sailing.

Spring and autumn wind speeds and summer conditions force you to choose this time period if you are looking for peace and quiet. There is no extreme heat and strong winds, as well as no abundance of people. You still can enjoy going bareboat without any unpleasant conditions and immerse yourself into the same active and loud festivals and celebrations.

Sailing Difficulty Level

Greece has already gained its high popularity as one of the world’s best sailing destinations . Because of its climate and location, the country represents great sailing options for beginners and professional sailors alike. The weather changes require sailors to explore the weather forecast beforehand to select the desired time for coming and know what to expect. The level of difficulty is mostly predetermined by the Meltemi wind of 6-8 force. Blowing from July to September may scary fresh sailors and even become a challenge for experienced professionals. If you are not highly skillful and just do not have enough confidence to manage the vessel by yourself, consider booking a boat in spring or autumn. The absence of powerful winds will not spoil your first sailing experience but contribute to positive impressions.

If you are still not ready to face the open water, 12 Knots is glad to provide you with the help of a qualified skipper and an opportunity to hire a crew . Being focused on the needs and desires of every sailor, we offer either a skipper to help to refresh the memories of handling a boat or a complete training process in our sailing school. Both options are delivered at their best quality and reasonable price.

Main Charter Bases

Greece is an incredibly important sailing destination for 12 Knots. Welcoming thousands of happy sailors every year, the country has a lot of well-equipped marinas and good mooring options. Depending on the desired part of the country, preferred city, and climate peculiarities, you may select a perfect one. The team of 12 Knots spreads their professional services on more than 30 bases along the coast. You may rent a yacht or boat at bases situated in the most famous Greek cities and islands:

  • Santorini  and many others

Boat Types for Charters

Having a great number of bases in possession, 12 Knots aims to provide sailors with powerful sailboats from leading manufacturers. Approximately 6,000 vessels are now available for charter in Greece. Sailing yachts, catamarans, powerboats, gulets, and houseboats are waiting for your booking. Do not hesitate and contact our team to become an owner of a white shining boat at a good cost. It is advisable to perform booking beforehand to avoid disappointment and misunderstanding.

Other Information about Greece Sailing

Before diving into the images of future perfect sailing vacations, every sailor should be aware of some essential information about the intended place.

  • The official language is Greek, although English is also widely spoken, especially in tourist places.
  • Greece is the Euro zone; that’s why the official currency is Euro.
  • Greece is under the Schengen Agreement, which enables US citizens to enter the country without a visa and stay for no more than 90 days. For citizens of other countries, the consultation of the specialist is needed.

Yacht Charters in Greece with Istion

Greece is quite simply the perfect sailing destination in Europe. Blessed with a mild southern Mediterranean climate with an extended summer giving a comfortable sailing season of close to eight months, our small country has over 13,000 kilometres of coastline to explore . That impressive number comes from the over 6000 islands and islets scattered like diamonds in the sea, each of them inviting you to swim for hours, socialise while tasting Greece’s well know cuisine and enjoy the beauty of a Greek summer spent next to the waves. Greece is truly a sailor’s paradise .

At Istion Yachting, we have been providing unforgettable sailing holidays in Greece for more than 30 years. From our humble beginnings on the island of Kos in 1992 we now offer charters throughout Greece from our 11 main charter bases. Our experienced skippers and crews, charter base staff, planning departments and every one of the wider Istion team is an expert in their field and is ready to assist you in planning the perfect sailing holiday in Greece . We look forwarded to welcoming you this summer!

There are so many options, and only so much time. The diversity of the different sailing areas in Greece makes picking just one difficult, which is why so many of our guests come back to sail again and again . There is always another beautiful island to visit and another idyllic beach to swim on!

Peak sailing season is from late June through August with hot weather, warm seas and busy islands. Availability can become limited during this period so booking early is essential.

Late spring from May to June and late summer from September to early October are often considered the best time to sail for experienced sailors and repeat visitors to our country. The weather is great and the islands are more relaxed than the busy summer months.

For those who want to live the real Greek way of life, April and October can be rewarding, with less heat, fewer visitors and enticing low-season offers . A few of the restaurants and shops on some islands may not have opened or may have closed for the season, but in our opinion early and late season sailing in Greece is a magical and unique experience .

The Argo Saronic Gulf is actually two gulfs (the Saronic and Argolic ) that are often referred to together in sailing terms given their close distances to each other. The Saronic Gulf lies in between Athens and the coast of the Argolid Peninsula while the Argolic Gulf is one hop over in between the peninsula and the first large leg of the Eastern Peloponnese , which runs all the way south to Monemvasia.

We often recommend this area to first time sailors for a number of practical reasons. First and foremost, it is the easiest area to reach from Athens , which makes it an ideal spot for those arriving via the Athens International Airport. Within a few hours of touching down you can be swimming and relaxing on board having reached your first destination.

Another advantage is that the area is well protected from the annual Meltemi winds that can blow strongly in July and August and may create challenging conditions for less experienced sailors.

The Argo Saronic Gulf also has plenty of places to visit on either a one or two-week holiday. One-week holidays will usually take in the nearby islands of Aigina and Poros before looping down to the coastal town of Ermioni and the cosmopolitan islands of Spetses and Hydra further south. A visit to Epidavros for a quick trip to its famous ancient theatre is not to be missed for the history buffs.

Two week holidays allow you to explore further east, with the coastal towns of Nafpleio, Leonidio and Kyparissi offering relaxed mooring while cruising the coast of the Eastern Peloponnese.

We invite you to learn more about our Athens charter base , download our sample one-week Saronic Gulf sailing itinerary for inspiration and contact us with any questions, we are here to help you plan your perfect sailing holiday.

Ah, the Cyclades. A name steeped in history that brings the classic image of a Greek island to everyone’s mind. While Greece has many island chains and all of them are unique and magical, the Cyclades has become nearly synonymous with the county as a whole for many visitors.

Characterised by their white houses, rugged landscapes and world famous beaches , the Cyclades attract visitors from around the world and are a must see for everyone at some point in their life. For sailors the area offers a huge variety of routes and islands to visit, from the world famous islands Mykonos and Santorini to the popular Paros and Naxos and many, many more in between.

A note about the Meltemi winds that blow from the north in July and August. In the Cyclades these winds can make for challenging conditions and sailing the area during these times is best for experienced sailors. Don’t despair all you beginner sailors! If you want a helping hand our skippers are the best in Greece and will be happy to take care of the sailing and navigation so you can enjoy the islands worry free.

The Cyclades are reached from our main base in Alimos Marina on the western side of Attica giving quick access to the islands of Kea, Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos and Milos among others.

Our base in Lavrion is perfect for getting a head start to the islands of Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos . The Lavrion base is further south and on the east side of Attica, saving a couple of hours of additional sailing time on your way out. As an added bonus, Lavrion is just half an hour from the Athens International Airport so you can be on your way towards your destination just an hour or two after landing.

Located on the western side of Greece the seven main islands of the Ionian Sea have their own unique charm and character . The Ionian Islands are much greener than most islands in Greece, their location and geography bringing more rainfall during the winter months and allowing trees and shrubs to grow and thrive. The combining of colours between the green of the hills , the white of the sands and the blue of the sea are a special treat for visitors to this area.

Istion maintains three bases in the Ionian, on Corfu in the north and in Lefkas (or Lefkada) and nearby Preveza further south.

Itineraries starting from Corfu may include multiple stops along the Corfu coast, visits to the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos and visits to mainland ports including Parga and Syvota .

Trips starting from Lefkas or Preveza may head either north towards Corfu or South towards the islands of Kalamos and Kastos and then on to the mythical island of Ithaca and nearby Kefalonia . Note that our base in Preveza is just 10 minutes from the Aktion Airport where all charter flights to Lefkas arrive. If your flight times are tight, Preveza is a great option .

We recommend downloading our sample sailing itineraries for trips leaving from Corfu and from Lefkas or Preveza . If you need more recommendations for a truly unique voyage through to the Ionian just contact us , we will be happy to help.

The Dodecanese islands in the southeast Aegean are close to our heart. The central island of Kos is where Istion Yachting first started operations in 1992 .

The Dodecanese are known for their wonderful beaches and rich history ranging from the ancient to the medieval to the modern in a delightful kaleidoscope of sights and sounds . The area has relatively mild wind conditions that are perfect for sailing throughout the year and has plenty of sun and warmth during the summer months.

Istion now has two bases in the Dodecanese, our home base on Kos and another on the historic island of Rhodes . From Kos you may head north towards the islands of Kalimos, Leros and Patmos and if time permits all the way to amazing Ithaki and Fourni .

Heading south from Kos will put you on course to visit the islands north of Rhodes including Nisiros, Tilos and Symi . Setting sail from Rhodes itself also reaches these islands or you can choose to head west, exploring the coast of Rhodes and visiting the quaint island of Chalki and the beautiful islands of Karpathos and Kasos .

Charter flights from most European countries fly direct to both Kos and Rhodes making them a great starting point for your next Aegean adventure !

The Sporades are the hidden gem on the Greek sailing map . Nestled off the eastern coast of central Greece the main islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros are a beautiful combination of green mountains, sandy and pebble beaches and deep blue seas. Nature plays a staring role here, with the National Marine Park at Alonissos being a significant refuge for the Monachus Monachus or Mediterranean seal .

Sailing conditions in the Sporades are relatively mild, although winds can shift between the day and night requiring some care when mooring. Distances between islands are short allowing a lot of fun to be packed into a week long charter .

We have two charter bases servicing the Sporades, a base on the island of Skiathos where most European charter flights arrive and another on the mainland city of Volos . Volos is a convenient starting spot for guests arriving by road with their own vehicle and allows exploring of the lovely coastline of the Pagasetic Gulf and Pelion on your way out to the islands – highly recommended !

Bareboat Charters

Tailored for the seasoned sailor, bareboat charters hand the helm over to you, allowing complete freedom to navigate the Greek seas at your own pace . Your sailing party must have at least one licensed skipper and one experienced crew member at a minimum to be able to rent our yachts as bareboats.

If you have some sailing experience but do not hold a valid license then a bareboat charter is not (yet) for you and your best option is a skippered charter where our friendly captains will give you a helping hand. If you are an experienced sailor and have no concerns about the challenges of wind conditions, navigation and docking then we invite you to read more about our bareboat charters here and contact us with any questions you may have.

Skippered Charters

Our skippered charters are the perfect blend of guidance and freedom, designed for those who have some sailing experience, are eager to learn or just want to relax and let a professional do the hard work . With an Istion skipper at your side, you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with their expert navigation and docking skills while still playing an active role in your sailing adventure.

It's an educational and exhilarating experience where you can hone your sailing skills, participate in manoeuvring the yacht, and even take the helm under the watchful eye of your skipper. It is an amazing experience for everyone and kids in particular have a great time learning about sailing and playing little captain for a week.

Our skippered charters always start off with a briefing between you and your skipper so you can learn about the area you are going to sail and the islands you may want to visit. Our skippers know the Greek seas inside out and based on your preferences they will suggest recommended itineraries to follow, which islands to visit and what hidden beaches to swim at.

If you are planning your first sailing holiday in Greece , you are in the very best hands with Istion's professional skippers by your side. Read more about our skippered charters here , or just get in touch to start planning your perfect sailing holiday in Greece.

Fully Crewed Charters

For those of you that want to indulge in the epitome of maritime luxury, our crewed charters promise a carefree and opulent experience in Greece. This option is perfect for those who wish to sit back, relax, and soak in the Mediterranean sun while every detail is taken care of by our professional crew. From expert navigation to gourmet meals, and from personalized itineraries to attentive service, every aspect of your voyage is meticulously curated to ensure unparalleled comfort and elegance .

Crewed charters are available on a range of our top end sailing yachts and catamarans , and for those that want the thrum of an engine beneath their feet and to make a grand entrance wherever they go our exclusive motor yachts are waiting for you to step aboard. A crewed charter with Istion isn't just a holiday; it's an all-inclusive experience where you are the honoured guest and the Greek Isles your exclusive playground . Discover more about our fully crewed dream vacations here .

Sailing Yachts

Sailing yachts are perfect for those who love the classic feeling of sailing. Designed to be easy to handle, they smoothly glide through the water and let you enjoy the natural beauty of the Greek seas. They're a bit slower than other boats, and they lean to one side when the wind blows, which is all part of the classic sailing adventure. Their charming appearance and comfortable ride make them ideal for those who want to experience traditional sailing in a relaxed and eco-friendly way.

Sailing yachts are also the most budget friendly option for a sailing holiday in Greece. Our smaller yachts with three cabins and space for up to six guests (or eight if two sleep in the main cabin) can be rented for as little as roughly 1200 Euros a week in the low season. Costs for larger yachts with up to 6 cabins and space for up to 12 guests rise to approximately 10.000 Euros a week in the high season.

At Istion, we proudly offer a wide selection of the latest models as well as impeccably maintained older sailing yachts from Jeanneau, Beneteau, Bavaria, Sun Odyssey, Hanse and other top shipyards. Whether you're planning a cozy trip for a small group or a grand sailing adventure for a larger party, we have the right yacht to suit your needs.

Catamarans are the choice for those who want lots of space and a stable, comfortable trip. With their two-hull design, they don't rock as much as sailing yachts, which is great if you're new to sailing or easily feel seasick. You can also get closer to the beach with a catamaran, as they don't sit very deep in the water. Catamarans offer a smooth and spacious experience, making for a relaxing and comfortable sailing holiday and are a very popular choice for first time sailors in Greece.

For families and larger groups, the bigger cabins and more room to move around on a catamaran make them a good fit for your holiday. The double hull layout means two families can easily sail together while each having their own 'private space' on either side of the main deck. Catamarans also tend to have one washroom per cabin, a feature all parents with teenage kids appreciate.

The comfort and space offered in a catamaran puts them in a higher budget bracket than our monohull sailing yachts. Our smallest catamarans with four cabins and room for up to 10 guests start at roughly 2100 Euros per week in low season. Our top of the line models can range up to 16.000 Euros plus in the middle of the high season.

We are proud to have one of the largest fleets of catamarans in Greece with brand new models from Lagoon, Bali and Fountaine Pajot among others. We invite you to browse all our catamarans and contact us for any guidance you need to help make your sailing adventure in Greece perfect in every way.

Motor Yachts

Motor yachts are all about luxury and speed. They have multiple levels with lots of space, including big bedrooms and expansive living areas. These boats move quickly, powered by strong engines, so they're great if you want to explore a lot of places fast and make an impressive entrance wherever you go.

Our motor yachts are all modern, with plush interiors and all the latest features for entertainment and entertaining. However, they do use more fuel and require a professional captain and crew, so there's a higher cost for this kind of luxury and speed. If you're looking for a high-end and fast-paced trip with all the modern comforts, motor yachts are the way to go .

Customer reviews.

We are frequent charterers and have sailed in the Med for the past 43 year. I have not only chartered but for many years ran the operations of a major charter company. I can safely say that it is not very often that one comes across a charter company as efficient and flexible as SEVEN Sailing .Spiros and his team were quite outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. Changes of charter dates, plans and island excursions were all handled swiftly and with courtesy. There is a lot to be said for using a company where the owners are hands on – something the mega charter companies lose with size. The boat was in excellent condition for age and we had no problems with her whatsoever. We have no hesitation in recommending Spiros and SEVEN Sailing.

Thank you for arranging a flotilla holiday that met all expectations and that will be fondly remembered. An efficient and personal service that resulted in a wonderful week of sailing in the Ionian. Good organisation and communication along with glorious conditions ensured our family flotilla experience was a big success. Our thanks to Spiros for arranging everything for us.

I would like to inform our satisfaction about the week we spended with catamaran odysseas. The boat was in excellent condtons and the places we visited very nice..Certainly we’ll back in this area supported by your organization

Thank you so much

When you select from our yachts for rent, keep in mind that you have to provide a cabin or berth in cabin for your skipper as he is obliged to sleep on board. Apart from the skipper’s fee, you have to also provide his meals either from the meals you prepare on board or at an eating place ashore. The skipper’s fee, regardless of the season and the people on board, is €140 to €190 depending on the yacht rental. You may wish to hire also a cook/hostess. The fee per day is generally 10 euro less than the skipper’s and you need to provide berth and meals as for the skipper. The running expenses for a skippered yacht charter are just like those of a bareboat charter (fuel, gas, water, meals, port/marina fees, etc.), plus the costs for the hired crew as above. Although some of our yacht rentals are offered only skippered (yacht charter prices include skipper’s fee), you may choose any of our bareboat charter yachts fitting your needs and let us know if you wish to have a skipper (select the check-box on the form of the yacht rental booking request).

The Greek unspoiled coastline and offshore islands have so many spectacular spots to visit that it is a natural start to any itinerary. Skippered yacht charter in Greece is all about your own private cruise where you can plan your own itinerary and visit exactly the places and attractions you want, from some of the world’s few truly iconic destinations to serene coves that are not accessible by land.

From ancient mythology to wine and olives, there's a lot to love about Greece . There's something magical about the contrast between the deep-blue waters of the Aegean Sea and the ancient ruins and white buildings found on the Greek islands.

The best Greece cruises offer a well-rounded mix of islands and key Greece destinations: Athens for its ruins, Santorini for its blue-roofed churches, Mykonos for its shopping and nightlife, and Rhodes for its palace and charming cobblestone streets. You might even luck out and snag a visit to places like Turkey or Montenegro, too.

If you're not sure which ships to consider, here's a list of the best cruises to Greece for different kinds of travelers.

Best Greek isles cruises for families: Disney Dream

yacht cruising greece

Disney Cruise Line is ideal for families. If a Disney cruise to Greece with kids sounds appealing, Disney Dream is the ship that will take you there.

The vessel isn't the line's newest, but it's also not the oldest, and you'll still find plenty to do on board. The 2,500-passenger ship's small size means it's easy to learn your way around. Even better, Disney Dream is typically more affordable than the line's newest vessels.

Dream offers jaw-dropping entertainment and daily character appearances, which means your children likely won't be bored on the ship. Its magical kids clubs feature a replica of Andy's room from "Toy Story" and the Millennium Falcon's cockpit from "Star Wars." (Expect surprise visits from R2-D2 or a squad of stormtroopers.)

Also, Greece is wrapped in tons of ancient history to spark your family's imagination. For example, in Athens, you might choose to take a guided tour of the Acropolis, followed by a "day in the life of an archaeologist" experience, where you'll search for treasures in a faux archaeological dig.

If the kids prefer something sportier, they might enjoy an excursion that takes visitors to the Panathenaic Stadium for a tour and a talk about the first Olympic games of the modern era.

Disney Dream sails five-, seven- and nine-night voyages from $322 per person, per night, for a windowless inside cabin. Some itineraries sail round-trip from Rome, while others cruise one-way between Rome and Barcelona with calls on Athens, Mykonos and other ports in Greece.

Best adults-only Greece cruises for party animals: Resilient Lady

yacht cruising greece

If you enjoy a lively megaship party atmosphere but you don't want an environment that's overrun with kids, Virgin Voyages ' Resilient Lady will likely be the best Greece cruise option for you.

Although Virgin's Greece itineraries are pretty standard, its onboard experience is what sets it apart in the region.

The adults-only ship combines a casual vibe with a ramped-up nightlife. You'll find passengers dressed like mermaids, crew dressed like drag queens and performers that more accurately represent a cross-section of real life than those whom you'll find on most other lines' vessels.

As part of what just might be the best entertainment at sea , nighttime shows run the gamut from lounge singers and seemingly impromptu atrium dance parties to secret below-deck visits to the "crew bar" for a drink. There's also Scarlet Night — a rave-like pool-deck dance party where everyone wears red.

If that's not wild enough for you, there's also an app that lets you order Champagne to wherever you are on board, free fitness classes that encourage you to dress up in your '80s best and even a tattoo parlor so you can make some bad decisions.

Resilient Lady sails seven-, 10- and 11-night cruises from Athens, starting at $145 per person, per night, for an inside cabin. The voyages feature a mix of stops in Greece (including Santorini and Rhodes and an overnight in Mykonos), Croatia, Turkey and Montenegro, depending on the specific itinerary you choose.

Best budget-friendly Greece cruises: Rhapsody of the Seas

yacht cruising greece

Want to check out Greece but have limited funds? Although you'll have to factor in potentially expensive flights to Europe to board, a voyage on Royal Caribbean 's Explorer of the Seas could be right up your alley.

The vessel is one of Royal Caribbean's oldest ships — it debuted in 2000 — but that doesn't mean you won't find fun onboard activities such as trivia, pool games, nightly theater performances, game shows, dancing and live music.

The best part if you're on a budget is the price. You can snag sailings of six, seven or eight nights from just $85 per person, per night, for an inside cabin. These cruises sail either between Rome and Athens or between Barcelona and Athens, or round-trip from Ravenna (the port for Bologna, Italy). Voyages include calls on Athens, Santorini and Mykonos, as well as ports in Cyprus and Turkey.

Best small-ship luxury Greece cruises: Windstar's Wind Star

yacht cruising greece

Windstar Cruises ' namesake, Wind Star, is a 148-passenger masted sailing yacht that offers a special Greek islands experience because it calls on some of the area's smaller ports in addition to Athens.

The ship is great for sailing aficionados. Because of its small size, it can visit smaller ports that larger vessels can't access. (Think Monemvasia, a town carved into rock, and Gythion, where you'll find caves and lovely beaches.)

Also, Wind Star is an upscale ship, which means you'll find elevated dining and service on board. All cabins offer at least one window. When you purchase an all-inclusive fare, Wi-Fi, gratuities and alcohol are rolled into the price.

Among other itineraries, the vessel sails weeklong cruises between Athens and Rome that call on Monemvasia and Gythion in Greece, as well as several ports in Italy. Rates start from $300 per person, per night, for an outside cabin.

Best locally based Greek isles cruises: Celestyal Journey

yacht cruising greece

Celestyal Cruises is a line you don't hear about too often, but it's based in Greece, which means it has a unique perspective on Greek island sailings.

If you're looking for a cruise vacation that's full of local Greek flair, check out the brand's Celestyal Journey. The ship isn't new, but it's new to the line. Following an extensive refurbishment, and its Celestyal debut in late 2023, it's the youngest member of the line's fleet.

Holding about 1,200 passengers, Celestyal Journey is small enough that you'll still receive a personalized experience but large enough to offer a multitude of onboard amenities. Enjoy yourself at the spa and fitness center, eight bars, seven restaurants, a chef's table experience and two pools. The ship offers 630 cabins, including 149 balcony cabins, 120 junior suites and 28 full-fledged suite accommodations.

Itineraries offered by Celestyal Journey range from four to 28 nights, departing from either Athens or Thessaloniki. Most voyages include calls on well-known Greek ports like Santorini, Rhodes and Mykonos, while longer sailings also venture to places in Turkey and Montenegro. Prices start from $89 per person, per night, for an inside cabin.

Bottom line

The best cruises to Greece combine a mix of fascinating destinations with a ship that fits your budget and travel style. If you're still unsure which cruise to choose, check with a knowledgeable cruise travel agent who can help you sort through the options.

How safe is your yacht’s keel?

Ben Sutcliffe-Davies

  • Ben Sutcliffe-Davies
  • September 27, 2024

Regular checks can help prevent catastrophic ballast failure, which can be seriously dangerous and occasionally fatal. Ben Sutcliffe-Davies explains what to look for…

yacht cruising greece

Few yachts have issues caused directly by the design of the keel. Almost all the failures I deal with are from hull damage that has gone unnoticed or poor repairs of common problems, such as constant, regular grounding, or rare incidents such as contact with a submerged shipping container.

While it’s important to check keel fittings over time for signs of stress, the most obvious moment to check them is following a grounding. Groundings come in two forms: the regular expected grounding and refloating of a boat left on a drying mooring, and sudden, unexpected groundings. It’s important to remember that sand can be surprisingly hard to ground on, while mud can create suction tight enough to hold the hull, and even force the hull and keel fastenings apart.

If you accidentally find the seabed, there are several actions you should take as soon as possible to check whether there has been any significant damage. It goes without saying that you should have your boat lifted and inspected after any significant unexpected grounding.

With bilge-keelers, even if there is no damage internally, repeated intentional groundings can eventually cause the keels to splay apart, bending the studs and weakening the laminate. This should be checked on an annual basis, ideally at lift-out for winter.

In the 1970s and 1980s many boat builders, such as Moody, used iron studs and coated the fastenings and backing plates with gelcoat. This never caused much of an issue other than some corrosion to the nuts and backing plates that frequently develop when they are exposed to wet bilges over a long period of time, or with some movement or stretching of the fastenings where they needed torquing down.

On the majority of modern production yachts these days, the keels are secured with stainless steel studs or bolts that are wound down into the casting. These, just like iron fittings, are perfectly acceptable as long as moisture can be reliably prevented from reaching the fastenings.

Sealant failure, or fastenings not being torqued regularly (every seven to ten years), can lead to moisture ingress into the hull-to-keel joint, causing crevice corrosion to stainless steel when oxygen cannot be replenished due to the fact that the chromium layer stops reforming. Over the years I’ve seen some spectacular failures in stainless-steel fastenings when used under water.

So, when it comes to looking after your keels, try to keep your bilges dry and your fastenings clean internally, inspect them regularly, and don’t ignore the sealant around the hull-to-keel joint. And do try your best to keep away from sandbanks!

Encapsulated keels

Many boats built in the 1970s and 1980s have encapsulated keels, where the keel is moulded as part of the hull, then filled with ballast. The ballast can range from lead ingots to steel punchings (the middles of washers). The way the metal is embedded into the keel void can range from having a mixture of sand and cement to, if you’re lucky, steel punchings mixed into polyester resin.

An encapsulated hull is considered to be the strongest and safest way of incorporating a keel. However, sailing performance, compared to a modern keel profile, will be significantly reduced with the production process also relatively more costly and time consuming. Another disadvantage is that if the keel gets damaged water can work its way into the ballast chamber and, if iron-ballasted, will cause corrosion and material expansion issues.

If you have encapsulated ballast, check it regularly by lightly tap-testing and listening for detachment of the ballast, looking carefully for swelling or splits around the keel lamination. Pay close attention to the leading edge and underside of the keel where it may have hit obstructions or been abraded. Water causes iron ballast to swell as it rusts which can lead to bulges in the hull. Lead won’t rust or swell, but trapped water will swell if it freezes.

External keels

The most common material used today to bolt on external keels is stainless steel. We no longer see many builders using high tensile steel or silicon bronze (a low-lead brass alloy). The sizing of the backing plates used to secure an external keel is vital. I’ve seen some backing plates buckle under normal use where the size and gauge of the plates haven’t been big enough.

Combination keels

Some builders use a combination of a lead bulb and a cast iron top section, which is generally considered to be a good compromise, but it can lead to issues with how the two materials are connected. Some builders use long bolts that run through the iron and then secure within, or even pass right through, the lead base.

Know your keel fastenings

Get to know where the keel fastenings are on your yacht. They usually align with the main areas of the keel, but there will sometimes be a smaller fastening forward and aft. Look for any evidence of weeping around the fastenings or under the plate washers.

If you have clean bilges and there are areas of staining developing from under the fastening washers, there may be an issue. Using a camera to take photos and then magnifying the images is a useful way to identify problems up close and in detail. Lightly tapping the tops of the fastenings with a small hammer will also help identify issues, with dull notes indicating that a particular fastening is no longer under the same tension as the others. Be mindful of when they may need to be torqued up.

Inspecting keel bolts

A visual inspection is advisable every season. Make sure the bilges are dry, then look for moisture seepage around the fastenings. Use a small hammer to tap-test the fastenings, and inspect the laminate around the fastenings for potential stress. If possible, inspect the craft when it’s lifted out the water and on strops, looking for any gapping of the keel joint.

If you are able, do a tip test of the keel with some light sideways force, and check for movement or deflection of the hull around the root. When the yacht is set down, look for movement between the keel and hull or sagging along the keel. Any movement or opening of the joint needs a further proper inspection by a professional.

Checking a bolted-on keel

Bolts holding on an external keel will have been specified by the designer to have an infinite fatigue life, so loads applied to them in normal use should never be high enough for fatigue to be an issue. Fatigue should only arise where corrosion has removed load-bearing areas from the bolts. Small failures can allow the keel to move, spreading to separation of structures, loss of strength, and, ultimately, the loss of a keel.

Several signs might indicate that all is not be well with your keel and its supporting structures. The checks that follow (see right) should be undertaken after any unexpected grounding, or if you have never done them before.

If you are in any doubt, seek advice from a surveyor or experienced repair yard. If you’ve had an incident, contact your insurance company as it may want to appoint a surveyor of its choice.

Regular external checks can prevent catastrophic keel damage. Photo: Ben Sutcliffe-Davis

External checks

When the boat is lifted, look at the hull-to-keel joint to see if there is a gap between the keel and the hull. Does the gap close when the boat is put down? A hairline crack in the antifouling is normal at a hull-to-keel joint, especially if flexible sealant has been used to seal the joint.

Are there streaks of corrosion from the hull-to-keel joint? It can be hard to judge the origins on an iron keel. Corrosion on the top flange of the keel can start loading stresses. Corrosion streaks developing on a lead keel with stainless steel bolts must be taken seriously.

When the hull has dried out, is there water still leaking from the hull-to-keel joint? This is a clear sign that the seal has failed.

Can you see cracks or damage on the hull? The keel may have moved and dislodged some paint. You may have to remove the coatings to expose the hull, but in some cases the cracks are clearly visible.

yacht cruising greece

This stud with crevice corrosion wouldn’t have been discovered if the keel hadn’t been removed. Photo: Ben Sutcliffe-Davis

Another obvious test is to push the bottom of the keel to see if you can move it. Does it swing when you let it go?

With the boat resting on the keel, can you see any upward deflection of the hull? This can sometimes be seen aft of the keel where the hull should be flat and is less likely if there is a keel stub. Failure in any of these tests suggests the keel structure may have been weakened, and further investigation is required.

Internal checks

Is there water in the bilge?  Leaking keel bolts are a sure sign all is not well, particularly with stainless steel. Check for other more obvious leaks, including the plumbing, to eliminate them before tackling the bolts.

Look closely at the keel bolts, nuts and washers. Use a brass wire brush to remove built-up crusting and debris. Steel bolts often look terrible at first, but further investigation might reveal no significant loss of material.

Nuts can be removed one by one to allow inspection of the threads below. New nuts may be needed if there is any damage to the old ones.

Tea staining around stainless bolts should be taken seriously. If you believe your stainless steel keel bolts have been wet for some time, you must suspect they are corroding and take action to investigate.

Is there any sign the bolts have moved? Check for tell-tale marks on the hull which may indicate this.

yacht cruising greece

Example of a worryingly corroded keel stud. Photo: Ben Sutcliffe Davies

Are the nuts tight and washers still flat? Enlarged holes and re-tightening of nuts can deflect washers into a cup shape. Glassed- over studs may have corrosion stains visible, and a light hammer may reveal one that sounds different from the rest.

Do the sole boards fit and are the sealant bead joints still in place around the bulkheads? Do the doors still open and close? All can indicate the hull shape has changed. Look closely around structures that support the keel. You may have to remove screwed-down sole boards.

Laminate fractures are a clear sign of movement beyond design, and a gentle hammer tap-test can be used to find areas where the internal pan liner and matrix structures have detached from the hull.

Are there signs of repair? Is there a record of the repair? Poor finish and different colours are easy to see (as is dust) in hard-to-reach spaces. Signs that the keel was not removed, such as resin over the keel bolts or repair edges around the keel bolts, might be signs of inadequate ‘sticking plaster’ repairs. Painted studs and nuts may be a sign of good maintenance but could also be an attempt to hide something.

yacht cruising greece

Damaged keels often have to be chiselled away from the hull. Photo: Ben Sutcliffe-Davis

Removal of the keel

If you suspect that your keel bolts are failing or might have an issue, the only way to be sure is to remove the keel to have a look. This shouldn’t be taken lightly and will probably require mast removal in the first instance and a hoist or crane to support the boat. Have a strong structure ready to support the keel. Damaged keels might not lower easily and may have to be chiselled off.

If you find or suspect damage to the internal structure, then a full repair is likely to require the keel to be removed to allow the hull to regain its proper shape. A few bits of matting and resin are seldom enough to replace lost strength. If you are in any doubt you should seek advice from a surveyor or yard with experience of keel repairs.

If you suspect you have a problem, contact your insurance company as you may be able to recover some of the cost.

Merchant ship rescues dozens of migrants from yacht in distress off southern Greece

Greek authorities say a merchant ship has rescued dozens of migrants from a yacht in distress off the southwestern coast of Greece

ATHENS, Greece — A merchant ship has rescued dozens of migrants from a yacht in distress off the southwestern coast of Greece, Greek authorities said Thursday.

The coast guard said about 70 migrants were on the vessel, and there were no reports of anyone being in ill health. The migrants were being taken to the southern Greek port of Kalamata.

The rescue took place some 15 nautical miles (17 miles) off the southwestern village of Koroni, the coast guard said.

There was no information immediately available on the nationalities of the migrants, or on where they had left from.

Typically, smuggling gangs cram dozens of migrants into yachts that leave Turkey for Italy, traveling through the central Aegean Sea. Each passenger is charged several thousands dollars for the trip.

The route skirts eastern Aegean waters that are heavily patrolled by Greece’s coast guard for small migrant boats leaving the Turkish coast for the nearby Greek islands.

Daisy Kelliher  will soon be returning to the screen when Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht premieres on Monday, October 7, but it's been a while since viewers last caught up with her.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Sailing Yacht on Bravo on Monday, October 7 at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .

Ahead of the Season 5 premiere, Daisy chatted exclusively with The Daily Dish  about the latest in her world — from her dating life  to  her egg freezing journey .

When asked what she's been up to, Daisy admitted, "Not much."

"God, what have I been doing? That's a scary question. I have not progressed in life at all," she teased before laughing. "I have not bought a house, I haven't gotten a new job, I've done nothing — quite brilliant! But a lot of traveling, you know. A lot of fun stuff. And, yeah, mainly traveling."

Daisy has been a mainstay on board Parsifal III for years now, but she still takes chief stew positions here and there.

"I'll temp when I can, but it's hard because temping is so last minute, so I'm usually not that last minute," the London-based stew said. "But yeah, if I ever get a chance to get on a boat, I definitely take that still."

"I have obviously reached an age where I'm still single, and, you know, science has allowed us to have options, and one of those is egg freezing. I'm not trying to have a baby, I'm not guaranteeing that I'm going to use these or anything like that — I never actually wanted children 'til I was older, anyway — but it's nice to be able to have these as a backup plan," she explained. "And it's not guaranteed, but they're there to use if I wish."

Daisy froze her eggs for the first time in November 2023, and she confirmed that three viable eggs were retrieved the second time around. She detailed the ups and downs of the entire process on social media.

"I just thought it was important to share my story, because I'd done a cycle previously, and I just had so many people asking questions and looking for information, so I saw an opportunity to be able to share something that was informative, Like, it's it's easy to share your life and be like, 'Oh, I'm on this amazing beach and I'm drinking this great drink,' or 'I've got this great beauty product,' but, it's nice when you're able to share something actually really informative and comforting to lots of other people," Daisy continued. "So yeah, I saw the opportunity, and I'm an open book. I did reality TV for four years. So I was like, why not share this?"

All it takes is one rotten apple to taint the reputation of a beloved series . That’s the exact effect of Gary King ’s behavior on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . Bravo recently announced that Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 will reunite Captain Glenn Shephard , Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher , and King as they spend their charter season in Ibiza. The new installment, which comes after almost a year since the wrap of Season 4, has sparked controversy owing to the inclusion of King, who has been accused of sexual misconduct . A production member accused King of forcing himself on her while he was in an inebriated state during the filming of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 in Sardinia, Italy.

While King has vehemently denied the allegations, considering his playboy ways since his debut on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2, viewers are leaning toward believing he is guilty. Given his reputation on deck, he often gets tangled in boatmances and love triangles , making viewers and those involved increasingly uncomfortable. His time on Parsifal III has nearly always led him into hookups with his fellow crew mates. Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 filming has been wrapped for over a year and was allegedly delayed due to the strong allegations against King . Given the gravity of the situation and the safety of women on board, the question arises: Why is Gary King being allowed to run wild as a part of the upcoming season?

Gary King’s Behavior Was Problematic From the Get-Go

Gary King joined the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 cast in March 2021 as First Mate on Parsifal III and was later promoted to First Officer by Captain Shephard. King had 12 years of experience as a first mate and a captain on smaller boats, making him exceptionally good at his job. However, his sexual and romantic endeavors often led him into messy conundrums. From the get-go, King has been embroiled in boatmances and hooked up with fellow crew members, earning him the title of the resident f-boy on deck . Right from his debut season, King wasted no time hooking up with his deckhand, Sydney Zaruba , by the end of the second episode. However, eventually, King realized he was more interested in Third Stew Alli Dore , which resulted in his first love triangle on the show . Things got extra messy, and Dore broke things off with him shortly after the season wrapped. Interestingly, it must also be noted that Gary King had a long-distance girlfriend while pursuing both women on deck .

Season 3 saw King quickly move onto a new love triangle with Junior Stews Ashley Marti and Scarlett Bentley , before which he was also briefly pursuing Gabriela Barragan , who left early. Although it was evident that Marti was way more into King than he was, he continued his incessant, cringeworthy advances toward Bentley. In Season 4, things took a wild turn, with the prominent tensions between Daisy Kelliher and Gary King taking center stage . King was at a disadvantage that season as he arrived a few days later when Kelliher already had a thing going on with Chief Engineer Colin MacRae . King disregarded what the duo had going on and pursued Kelliher most uncomfortably, landing him in a third love triangle. When Daisy refused to give in to his advances, he immediately engaged in a situationship with Mads Herrera . He later accused Herrera of playing with his feelings despite her stating they were always casual.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Crew Members Have Accused King of Sexual Assault

On August 24, 2023, Rolling Stone released an exposé where a production member of the show accused Gary King of sexual assault. Samantha Suarez , who first joined the makeup department on Below Deck Season 10, revealed in the article that King forced himself on her while filming Season 4 in Sardinia, Italy , in the summer of 2022. During that period, crew members stayed in the same hotel, and before filming charters on the yacht and on the few “dark days,” so did Below Deck cast members . Suarez, who did hair and makeup for the cast, was also responsible for carrying out everyday tasks like ensuring that the cast members were safely placed in their hotel rooms, bringing them food and water, and so on. She noted that King was being difficult from the get-go and not adhering to COVID protocols when they first arrived in Sardinia.

‘Below Deck’ Star Sinks Wedding Following Shock Split

"I think that this is the best decision for both of us."

While recounting the incident, Suarez revealed how she was given the responsibility of accompanying King back to his hotel room while he was visibly intoxicated after he filmed his interviews for the show. After much difficulty, she got King safely into his hotel room when he repeatedly asked her not to leave. Right when she was about to leave, King came up behind her, grabbing and pressing his body against Suarez , refusing to let her go. She managed to get him off after kicking and elbowing him, and by a stroke of luck, she received a call from a talent manager at that very moment. It should also be noted that King was just wearing his underwear at the time . Suarez immediately informed producers, and King was instructed to sleep on the boat for the remainder of the “dark days.”

Gary King’s Reputation Didn’t Help Matters Despite His Denial

Gary King’s behavior toward women has been problematic for years, which makes his denial of Suarez’s claims hard to believe. Be it the nature of his complicated relationship with Daisy Kelliher or his unhinged flirting with Stews Lucy Edmunds and Herrera, which made them visibly uncomfortable. King even made a snide and painfully uncomfortable comment on his sexual endeavors with Herrera related to her period, which was addressed on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen . The Rolling Stone article also revealed that several anonymous crew members came forward to recount incidents where King was being predatory and disrespectful, terming him “ next-level scary with women.” They also revealed other instances, such as when King had grabbed a female cast member’s butt despite her asking him to stop and where he grabbed a production crew member’s genitals.

According to US Weekly , King broke his silence on the incident in the comments section of one of his Instagram posts on the same day as the Rolling Stone story . In since-deleted replies to comments where viewers questioned the allegations, King stated that Suarez’s claims were far from the truth and accused her of making him an unlucky target while she sought a platform. He further expressed how she lied and threw shade at the anonymous accusers. King also doubled down on his denial by accusing Suarez and her boyfriend of targeting him as a revenge ploy for not being invited back on Below Deck over problems they had caused. In the same comment, King also addressed how the allegations have affected his career and his family , describing it as the most challenging period.

The Allegations Against King Should've Been Handled Better

Post the incident, both Bravo and 51 Minds Entertainment released statements to Rolling Stone which reiterated how they are committed to providing a safe working environment for the cast and crew with an update on the incident, “the concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.” King was also removed from his panel at BravoCon 2023, but he continued filming. However, the revelations made in the exposé insinuated how production often lets such issues slide, and crew members who were vocal about witnessing the harassment were not asked to return for the following season . It cannot be ignored that, despite Gary King’s denial, his behavior across seasons — even before the incident — was quite problematic.

Bravo’s sweeping of the matter under the rug didn’t do anyone any favors as, ideally, they should’ve resorted to an immediate termination like in the case of Below Deck Down Under where Captain Jason Chambers booted Luke Jones and Laura Bileskalne for sexual misconduct . Captain Shephard should’ve overlooked his longstanding camaraderie with King and resorted to taking strict action against him, keeping in mind the women on deck. While it can be understandable to some extent that King had to be a part of Season 5, as it was filmed in advance, it would be disappointing to see him return if the show gets renewed for another season. It would further stain the already tarnished reputation of the reality TV show and cause them to lose respect in the eyes of their fans. While it remains to be seen whether scenes featuring Gary King have been kept minimal or edited out, there’s no doubt that his actions have left a permanent smudge on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 premieres on October 7 at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo in the U.S. The episode will be available to stream the next day on Peacock.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

News of the sinking left CEO of The Italian Sea Group Giovanni Costantino in ‘sadness on the one hand and disbelief on the other’.

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.
