2024 Phebe Corckran King Memorial Trophy

Saturday, June 1:

After a short postponement on Saturday June 1st, 2024, racing started approximately around 1132 hours. Winds in the morning were light and variable, ranging from 2.5 knots to 4 knots. Weather was sunny with blue skies and temperatures were in the mid-70s. Later in the afternoon, winds increased from 6 to 12 knots by the end of the day. The on the water judging only had a few yellow flags and for the most part, everyone was racing fairly, and the race committee saw great sportsmanship as teams were finishing. Sailors were actually congratulating each other by saying great race after finishing! Well, done High School sailors for showing great sportsmanship throughout the day. Annapolis Yacht Club would like to thank our sister club Severn Sailing Association for allowing us to use their FJ Fleet and do rotations at their facilities. Big shout out to Travis Carlisle for managing rotations and land logistics as the Director of MDISA and our MASSA Representative. The PRO would also like to thank all our volunteers, on the water Judges, AYC Protest Committee, and last but not least our mix of national & international Race Management team for all their hard work on Saturday. Last race of the day ended at 1637 hours (4:37 PM) and the AYC Race Committee had completed 12 races in both A & B Divisions with a total of 24 races completed for the day. 8 protests were filed on the water with the signal boat and 3 protests were followed through within the time limit ashore, resulting in 3 DSQs and 1 redress for breakdown was awarded.

Couple of Reminders:

Report time for Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 will be at 0830 hours at both AYC and SSA designated club launching venues.

FLEET SWAP WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW STARTING WITH RACE #13, SO THIS MEANS A-DIVISION WILL BE SAILING IN c420s OUT OF AYC AND B-DIVISION WILL BE SAILING IN CFJs OUT OF SSA.

FIRST WARNING will be approximately around 1000 hours or as soon as reasonably possible.

Attention COACHES:

Please have one Coach from each school come to the award ceremony at AYC on Sunday after racing to pick up your Sailor's FREE Cool SWAG, Phebe Corckran King Memorial Trophy tech shirts provide by the Corckran and King Families!

Sunday, June 2:

AYC Junior Sailing Regatta Report from Sunday:

The Annapolis Yacht Club & Severn Sailing Association joined forces to host the 7th Annual Phebe Corckran King Memorial Championship! Sunday's races started early in the morning from a Southwest direction with 6-10 knots of breeze around 0955 on Sunday June 2nd, 2024. Weather was a little bit colder in the low 70s and cloudy. After the 1st set of races the wind took a 90 degree turn to the South bringing us a steady breeze of 12 to 15 knots.

The sailors finally got a chance to hike and sail fast having a great time out on the Chesapeake Bay. The starts also became more challenging due to the windy conditions making the fleet pushing the line more aggressive which caused for many individual recalls and 1 general recall. Everyone kept racing fairly and with more sportsmanship and decorum than the first day of races. Last race of the day ended at 1302 hours (1:02 PM) and the AYC Race Committee had completed 18 races in both A & B Divisions with a total of 36 races completed for the weekend. 5 protests were filed on the water with the signal boat and 2 protests were followed through within the time limit ashore, resulting in 1 DSQ.
