BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO BIMINI ISLANDS AND POINTS OF INTEREST

Bimini is the nearest Bahamian island (two islands) to the USA, barely 50 miles from Miami, it’s a very short trip and only a few hours by yacht from Miami. A tiny island of the Bahamas, Bimini is just 7 miles long and barely 700 feet wide at its widest point. Bimini is the western most island in the Bahamas and the closest foreign island to the US mainland and has previously been recognized mainly for the famous Hemingway era.

Whether you come with the family, as a couple, or single for bar hopping, casinos, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, tanning on the beaches, or relaxing in a hammock in the cool breeze, the Bahamas will leave you speechless and satisfied. A US Passport or birth certificate is required when traveling to the Bahamas.

BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO NASSAU, HARBOUR CAY, BERRY ISLANDS

The more ‘popular’ areas of the Bahamas begins in the Berry Islands, while on your way to Nassau, which are low-lying and unique with few inhabitants, fantastic fishing and the feeling of being on a different planet. Many groups make Chub Cay their first stop, then go north…or start in Great Stirrup Cay and go Southwards. Either way, even on a power-yacht, it will take a week or longer to when traveling by yacht. If leaving from Miami, charterers will cross the Gulf Stream with its seasonal uncertainties, with slight chances of the charter being delayed a day or so, if the seas are too rough, but this is not normally the case and the journey is well worth it!! Most our charter guests prefer to fly into Nassau, and board their sailing or motor yacht at the Atlantis Hotel and Marina, beginning their cruise in Bahamas, avoiding the seven-hour delivery across the Atlantic Ocean. Other charterers, especially the bare-boaters, like to fly into Marsh Harbour in the Abacos and rent a charter boat from there and explore the Sea of Abaco.

The Atlantis Hotel Casino and Resort is the largest and most amazing resort in all of Bahamas, offering 5-Star amenities for all ages including a theme waterpark, the Caribbean’s largest aquarium, interactive dolphin lagoon, world-class casino and spa, couture brand shopping center, and over a dozen fine dining restaurants. Many charters begin and end their charter at the Atlantis Marina, which provides just enough excitement and action for a couple of days, while other days are spent exploring the more remote islands.

For more information about the casino, visit http://www.atlantisbahamas.com/

BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO EXUMAS AND ABACOS

The Exumas chain of 365 islands (or cays) in the Bahamas, starts about 35 nm South of Nassau and runs about 120 nm South from Allen Cay, all the way to Georgetown that has an airport with regular scheduled flights. This is considered the most sought after location in the Bahamas with crystal-clear waters, swimming pigs, superb diving, friendly petting sharks, snorkeling, fishing and lots of neat little bays and coves to anchor out. Exumas is a special strip of private islands where one can find a lone Tiki beach bar in the middle of seemingly nowhere…in paradise! Be sure to visit Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, which some consider the most breathtaking place is the Exumas. http://www.exumapark.org. There are some great itineraries that start and end either in Nassau or Staniel Cay and cover the upper Exumas, Cat Island, Eleuthera, and Harbour island.

For the even more adventurous, a Georgetown pick-up and a route that includes the “Out-Islands” of the Bahamas is even more attractive for those of us who like remote and mostly uninhabited islands. The few locals you encounter are very friendly and polite. This route includes the islands of Rum Cay, Conception, San Salvador, Long Island, Acklins, Crooked Islands, and Mayaguana. The island of Great Inagua has a fine National Park and nature reserve with the largest population of West Indian Flamingoes, Parrots, and other bird species. Little Inagua has a large population of feral donkeys and goats that were originally left there (or escaped from) the numerous wrecks caused by the Inagua reef.

In the Northern Bahamas, the Sea of Abaco, with its three “major towns” of Marsh Harbour, Hopetown and Coopers Town and ringed by Green Turtle Cay, Treasure Cay and many others, constitutes a small isolated area with its own special culture and values. The Abacos are especially known for calm waters, warm breezes and panoramic beauty that make this 120-mile–long chain of islands a boating and sailing paradise. It’s not just the sea that attracts travelers from around the world. Those who prefer to explore by land will find championship golf courses on Treasure Cay, charming colonial towns on Green Turtle and Elbow Cays, and countless hotels, restaurants and bars throughout.

In summary, the Bahamas is not just Bimini and the casinos of Freeport, Lucaya, Nassau and Paradise Island. The real Bahamas can be seen only by a private charter boat and remains one of the most unbelievable recreational cruising grounds in the world.

Please contact us to arrange a Bahamas charter vacation, customized just for you and your group.

Discover Paradise: Bimini Islands Yacht Charter Adventures

Bimini is the westernmost district of the Bahamas , consisting of two main islands — North and South — and numerous cays. It is the closest Bahamian island to Florida, and, like the Abacos , it is well known for deep-sea fishing. A Bimini Islands Yacht Charter takes you to some of the most beautiful waters in the world.

Bimini Bahamas

The Bimini Islands offer a laid-back vibe and plenty of opportunities to be as active or relaxed as you’d like.

The Bimini Islands’ summers are hot, humid, wet, and mostly cloudy. The winters are comfortable, humid, windy, and mostly clear. Over the year, the temperature varies from 67°F to 88°F, and it is rarely below 57°F or above 91°F.

Bimini Islands | Things to See and Do

  • See the Sapona Shipwreck . The SS Sapona was a concrete-hulled cargo steamer that ran aground near the Bimini Islands during a storm in 1926. In addition, the ship’s wreck is a popular site for scuba diving and snorkeling.
  • Take a dip in the Fountain of Youth . Spanish explorer Juan Ponce De Leon supposedly discovered this famous site, and the waters are believed to have youth-restoring properties.
  • Walk the mile-long Bimini Nature Trail at the Bimini Sands Resort & Marina. A professional guide shares fun facts about the island’s indigenous plants and animals. Additionally, self-guided tours are available along the trail. It is an easy route and takes about a half hour to complete.
  • Visit the Dolphin House Museum . This unique museum is a Bahamian national treasure and a well-known landmark. This “Poem In Stone” is a dolphin and ocean-inspired museum built over the last 27 years using recycled, salvaged, and donated materials.
  • Sunbathe on Radio Beach . This lovely beach has soft white sand and calm water. The nearby coral reef protects the beach from ocean currents, making it an excellent spot for wading and swimming. Near the beach, you can purchase ready-made seafood and have a picnic.
  • Try Conch Salad . Visitors rave about the conch salad at Joe’s Conch Shack.
  • Visit the Bimini Islands Museum . The building was once the Commissioner’s Office and jail but was abandoned in 1974. It now displays relics such as old cannon balls, photographs of Ernest Hemingway, and artifacts from the old Rod & Gun Club.

It’s divided in 3 small Islands: North, East, and South Bimini, with North and South Bimini being the largest. Also, the name is derived from these 2 Islands (Bi Mini).

The North side  is only 7 miles (11km) long and 700 feet (200m) wide. You only need a golf cart to move around and enjoy the shops, restaurants, and bars.

SCUBA DIVING AND SNORKELING AT SS SAPONA SHIPWRECK

Today it still sits on the South side of Bimini Island, 3 miles from the shore. You can reach the Sapona shipwreck by your chartered boat and enjoy snorkeling reaching 20 feet deep. The beauty of the clear ocean makes it such a splendid landmark to enjoy a variety of sea fishes and sea creatures. Feel free to take amazing pictures while jumping off the shipwreck.

For scuba diving we recommend  Neal Watson Bimini Scuba Center . They are professional, patient and can accommodate divers of all levels.

Quick tips:

You can make your way around North Bimini in  less than 30 minutes by golf cart.  There are more than 10 golf cart rental companies on the island, making it easy to rent one for the day.   Do as the locals and take a short, leisurely drive to the corner store, or to eat at one of the many restaurants (pass by Bimini  Big John’s Bar & Grill) , head to the beach, or try your luck at the casino. The locals are incredibly nice and welcoming, always ready to give advice for the best local food and live music. There is also a daily ferry service between North and South Bimini, though you will find more to do on the North side.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO BIMINI

Typical departure from Miami is early  in the morning around 9am, for timely arrival in Bimini to clear customs ( passports needed ). You should be ready to pick up your golf cart at the marina by 2pm. We will make sure marina dockage and golf cart are reserved so you can enjoy and relax from the moment you arrive. Drive around the Island and pass by  Joe’s Conch Shack  have their famous conch salad and you may even catch them cleaning and prepping it (see picture below).  Conch  is the most famous seafood dish in Bimini so you may also want to try Stuarts delicious conch salad.

You can go around the island and stop by the beaches for a swim, stop by a shack and enjoy a local Kalik beer while enjoying the view of pastel colored wooden homes and breathe in the fresh ocean air. Once you finished exploring it’s time to go back to the marina, relax on your boat and get ready for dinner. You may choose a fancy dinner at  Sabor restaurant  inside the Hilton Resorts World Bimini or a local laid back option like  Edith’s Pizza , which serves a lot more than pizza. Finish your night at the  Casino  at Hilton Resorts World Bimini. Or, if it’s a weekend, you may relax by the marina listening to live band music. Or, one of our weekend favorites is  Big John’s Bar & Grill,  which was just remodeled in April 2017

Let’s get the engine started and move the boat towards the area where  dolphins  like to hang around. If we’re lucky, you will be able to see some and even swim with them. We just ask that you keep in mind they are wild mammals and you should always take precautions.

We will mostly likely stop by the SSS Sapona Shipwreck by South Bimini, where you may enjoy amazing  snorkeling . If your chartered yacht is equipped with a  jet ski , this is the time to hop on one and take it around the shipwreck, jump in the water to snorkel and capture beautiful pictures to share back home.

On 2-night trips, we can take you to  a private island called Cat Cay , located only 10 miles away from Bimini. Here visitors are permitted to moor for no more than 24 hours. Enjoy some fine cuisine at Nauticat Restaurant or Bu’s Bar for a more relaxed atmosphere.

The island is managed by Cat Cay Yacht Club and non-members may only visit accompanied by members. For a private tour for membership inquiries or more information, please visit their website.

CHOOSING A BOAT

Now let’s choose the  perfect boat for you . It all depends how many guests are joining you and if you are planning to sleep on the boat or in a hotel.

We can help you choose from a medium size vessel like a  54’ Sea Ray Sundancer  with 2 rooms or a  64’ Azimut  with 3 staterooms. For fishing aficionados, we have a  50’ or a 60’ Hatteras  fishing boat so you can enjoy Big Game Fishing.

Do you have a bigger budget in mind? We recommend a  75’ Sunseeker Manhattan  which is ultra comfortable and luxurious equipped with all the amenities you may need. If you decide you rather stay overnight in a hotel than your chartered vessel, we can recommend one of our partner’s resorts.

Fishing charters are permitted for no more than 6 guests by law.

Paradise Yacht Charters

Bimini, Bahamas

Sometimes you just need a break from the hustle and bustle of life.  Maybe it’s a break from work.  Maybe it’s a break from the kids.  Maybe it’s a break from life in general and all you need is a change of pace for a day or two.  Maybe it’s time for a quick getaway. Bimini Yacht Charters are the perfect solution.

motor yacht bimini

Bimini and her neighbor Cat Cay may be just the right answer.   Bimini is just a few short miles from the coast of Palm Beach, Florida but it is a whole world away.  An island, another country, a different attitude.  This tiny area of about 20 miles is dotted with islands with white sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters and locals that stand ready to welcome you with smiles and perhaps a local rum drink.

Lost City Atlantis

If you are open to local legend, and willing to use your imagination, perhaps you will buy into the rumor that this is the site of the Lost City of Atlantis.  There are symmetrical slabs in the shallow waters off of North Bimini that are said to have been the road leading to Atlantis.  But truth or fantasy, the slabs are located in only fifteen feet of water and are fun to snorkel and delve into a little fantasy of your own.  After all, the whole purpose of this getaway is to take a break for the day to day so why not take a flight into fantasy while you’re here.

motor yacht bimini

Bimini is actually two islands since North Bimini and South Bimini are actually separated by a narrow channel. Not only is the channel narrow – it is only six feet deep and usually has a pretty strong current flowing through making navigation a bit of a challenge and impossible for the larger yachts.

motor yacht bimini

Alicetown is the main, actually the only town, in Bimini and is located on North Bimini. This is also where you will find most of the marinas, shops and restaurants and a common port of call for Bimini yacht charters. This was home to the Compleat Angler home to Hemingway during the mid 30’s and host to other notable visitors such as Lucille Ball and Jimmy Buffett. Unfortunately the hotel was destroyed by a devastating fire which took the life of owner Julian Brown on January 13, 2006. This was a sad day in Bimini and the hotel and its owner are sorely missed.

motor yacht bimini

If you’re up for a bit of snorkeling or diving be sure to visit the partially submerged wreck of the 270’ concrete-hulled cargo steamer ship, the  Sapona built by Henry Ford in 1911. This is a great place to enjoy some of the fascinating sea life found in the Bahamas. The ship sank here during a hurricane in the 1926 but while owned by as Bruce Bethel, a rum runner, she led quite an exciting life as floating liquor warehouse during prohibition and also as a night club. During a hurricane in 1926 the stern of the ship broke off and the ship as well as all of Bethel’s liquor stocks were destroyed He never recovered from this loss and died penniless in 1950.

During World War II, the wreck was used for target practice by the Air Force and Navy. The legendary Lost Squadron of Flight 19 disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle on December 5, 1045 while returning home from a practice bombing of the Sapona. The bombings of the Sapona were stopped shortly thereafter.

About 10 miles south of Bimini is  Cat Cay . A private island owned by its members. While enjoying your Bimini yacht charter you are allowed to visit and tie up at the marina and non-member yachtsmen are allowed access to many of the facilities adjacent to the marina. This includes access to the Cat Bay Boutique, Nauticat restaurant, market and clinic. If you fall in love with Cat Cay Yacht Club, as many before you have done, membership requires a bit of effort. A Regular current member must sponsor you. A second member must second that sponsorship and then the Board of the Directors will investigate you and vote on your application. A non-refundable initiation fee of $25,000 USD is required for membership and must be submitted with the application. Bimini Charters

Although it is not a particularly popular destination for fully crewed yacht charters, Bimini is conveniently located near the coast of Florida, which makes it an excellent choice for a fishing vacation destination. A yacht charter that includes Bimini is a very rare request, while it's close to the coast of Florida it is less convenient for also visiting other parts of the Bahamas on a charter and that leads to clients typically then request other locations such as the Exumas or Nassau.

After you have quietly settled down at an anchorage or parked your vessel at one of the numerous marinas in Alice Town, you are free to try your hand at sport fishing. It is said that the famous author Ernest Hemingway fished in these storied waters, which are situated on the furthest easternmost point of the Gulf Stream. At Bimini, maritime aircraft landing in the channel offer the one and only non-typical source of excitement that can be found on the island.

Do you and the other people who are visiting not have any interest in going fishing at all? You might go scuba diving or snorkeling in the crystal clear waters that surround Bimini, or you could take a stroll down the beach in Alice Town. Both of these activities are excellent ways to spend your time. Going offshore to snorkel with the most diverse selection of gorgeous fish will give you a taste of what it must be like to live the adventurous life of an adventurer. For a moment of relaxation, you can always take a nap on the sand.

You and your guests have the option of taking it easy by going for a stroll along the beach, or you can put each other to the test by competing to find the most unique keepsake of your time spent in Bimini at one of the shops located in Alice Town. Either way, there are plenty of things to do while in Bimini. After you have had your fill of the beautiful outdoors, you can look forward to spending the evening on board, where the crew will most likely serve you drinks and a meal that has been specially prepared for you.The crew will ensure this is a an equally action-packed and relaxing trip for you

The location of Bimini

Bimini is the southernmost archipelago of the Bahamas, and it is the Bahamas’ closest point to the United States. It is located app. 80 kilometres east of Miami and 210 kilometres west of Nassau. It has a population of around 2, 000 people. It consists of three islands: North Bimini, South Bimini and East Bimini. The most significant one of them is North Bimini. The island is app. 11 kilometres long and 200 metres wide. Alice Town is the capital and also the centre of the archipelago. The international airport can be found in South Bimini. Cay Sal Bank is located to the south, app. 100 kilometres away. Although it also belongs to the Bimini area, it is not part of the archipelago geographically.

At the end of the 19th century, the cotton trade provided prosperity for people on most islands including Bimini. The real flourishing started in the 1920s, during the prohibition of alcohol, as the prohibition did not apply to Bimini. During this time, a large number of ships were anchoring around Bimini, which was used for storing alcoholic beverages by American rum traders. Today, Bimini is a first-class tourist destination. The exclusive hotels and casinos attract gamblers, and the island is also a popular place among anglers thanks to the Bimini Game Club.

Can you rent a yacht in Bimini – do I need a license?

In Bimini, a license is not specifically required. You simply need to fill out a sailing resume and only charter a yacht that your experience permits. Before you confirm your sailing trip to the Bimini, please send us your sailing experience, or a copy of your skipper licence and we will check it for you. If you do not have a skipper license, or experience it is also possible to rent a yacht with a skipper

Boat rental in Bimini – the main ports

There are ports on all islands of the Bimini area that offer full service to sailors. Most of these are ports of entry, so we can take care of clearance practically anywhere. The service offered is professional. and every sailor will find the marina or anchorage that best suits their needs.

North Bimini

As its name suggests, the main island of the archipelago, North Bimini, is located in the north. The most important towns of the area can be found here: Alice Town, Bailey Town and Paradise Point. The archipelago is sparsely populated; most people live in North Bimini, which is the most buzzing island. There are several restaurants, bars and shops that visitors can choose from; the Hemingway Museum is located in Alice Town. Bimini Road, which is among the most exciting diving spots in the Bahamas, can be found in the northern corner of the island. They say that this is where the remains of the sunken city Atlantis are. There are many yacht marinas, anchorages and long beaches here.

Blue Water Marina, Browns Marina and Resort Word Bimini are all great establishments providing full service. Weech’s Bimini Dock is a cheaper and less exclusive marina, but we can find all the basic amenities here as well. Bimini Big Club is very popular among the visitors of Bimini; it is a first-class entertainment facility and a yacht marina at the same time

The Bimini Big Game Club

Bimini Big Game Club was started by Neville Stuart in 1936. The businessman organised ambitious fishing contests that attracted anglers from all over the world. The club operated mainly as an exquisite restaurant at first. In 1954, they moved to their current location, Alice Town, and then the place became a major venue for big-game fishing. The club earned its current shape during the 1970s; that is when the amazing yacht marina was added. The mission of the club’s owners is to preserve their heritage for the future. It has become one of the major holiday resorts for anglers, and they have added several events to its portfolio. Regardless of why we arrived on Bimini, we will definitely find some of these events interesting. We can go fishing, scuba-diving or just enjoy the amazing atmosphere of this old historic place.

Blue Water Marina

Browns marina.

Browns Marina is the first yacht marina of the Port of Bimini, located along a 60-metre-long boardwalk. They accommodate bigger boats with a larger draft. They provide access to Wi-Fi, electricity, and they also have showers. The port has its own bar, and there is also a nice picnic place and a grill.

South Bimini

South Bimini is the second-largest island in the archipelago. There are many private estates here making this place less significant in terms of tourism than its northern counterpart. However, the most important international airport of the archipelago, South Bimini Airport, is located here. The yacht marina called Bimini Sands Marina has a Blue Flag certificate thanks to its excellent waters. Also, the services offered here will cater to all the needs of yacht owners. There are customs and immigration offices at the entrance where we can arrange our clearance. It is the ideal central destination. Nixon’s Harbour is located in the southern corner of the island with great anchorages and moorings. The famous wreck of the SS Sappona can also be found nearby; it is a popular diving and snorkeling spot.

Bimini Sands Marina

There are some smaller islands south of Bimini. The first is Gun Cay, app. 10 kilometres from the southern corner of South Bimini. One of the most popular anchorages is at the northern end; all Bahamian sailors stop at Honeymoon Harbour. The area is spectacular, and its beach is among the most beautiful ones. A unique symbol of the island is the lighthouse located in the south, standing here since 1836.

Cat Cays is the other island’s name, south of Bimini. In fact, it consists of two islands, North Cat Cay and South Cat Cay. North Cat Cay is privately-owned and is run by the Cat Cay Yacht Club. Since this is a private island, access is limited, and we are only allowed to dock temporarily in the marina. There is a restaurant, a shop and a bar, which will all make our stay here more pleasant. We must definitely visit this beautiful area around the port. South Cat Cay is not very developed yet. but we can still find great anchorages at Moxom Rocks. There is an amazing diving spot, Tuna Alley, near the shores. They have placed out mooring buoys to provide help with securing the boats to those who visit for a dive. Depth: 3.5 m, GPS Coordinates : 25.410965, -77.902506

Cat Cay Yacht Club

If you do not own a property, your only opportunity to spend a few nights here is at Cat Cay Marina. The port is among the best-protected and best-equipped establishments in the area. There are 180 berths here and they also provide a fuel dock. The beach is very calm and enchanting, and there are great diving and fishing spots in the near vicinity. Depth: 3 m, GPS Coordinates : 25.554400, -79.275003

The main attractions in Bimini

Bimini is a small pearl of the Bahamas. Amazing beaches, excellent bays and water activities. Despite its small size, we can find everything here, that we like so much in the Bahamas. There is another reason that makes the archipelago unique among the neighbouring islands: its rich history, the traces of which are still visible today. The shipwreck of the famous American ship SS Sapona is located near South Bimini. The Fountain of Youth can also be found in the south; Indian legend has it that its water has a rejuvenating effect.

Bimini Road lies near the shores of North Bimini; they say that it was part of the sunken city Atlantis. There are two lighthouses of over 200 years old towering in the sky here as well; the one on Gun Cay has been guiding Bahamian sailors since 1836. The other one, namely the Great Isaac Tower is located 30 kilometres from Bimini; it was built-in 1859. With its height of 45 metres, it is the highest lighthouse in the area.

The gastronomy of Bimini

If you would like to try the cuisine of Bimini, you must visit one of the local snack bars and restaurants. Besides filling our bellies, we can also get to know the locals, get an insight into authentic Bahamian fish frying and try different delicacies. One of the unique Bahamian specialties is the conch and the salad prepared with it. Some of the restaurants have an open kitchen setting, providing us with the opportunity to see how the food we ordered is prepared. The restaurants on the beach are more romantic, offering a wonderful view of the sea. They serve fresh frutti di mare, sushi and hamburgers, always with a twist by the local chefs. If we prefer to play it safe, we can choose from traditional American and Italian dishes as well.

Beaches in Bimini

Radio beach.

One of the most popular and best-known beaches can be found on North Bimini, directly next to Queen’s Highway. It is a very long shore segment – almost 3 kilometres in length – stretching from Alice Town all the way to Bailey Town. They refer to it as Radio Beach most of the time, but in fact, it consists of three connected beaches. Radio Beach is followed by Blister Beach and Spook Hill Beach. It would be a tough call to name the best or most beautiful one, and it is not in our place to do so. It depends entirely on you which parts you will like the best and where you want to spend a beautiful day.

Tiki Hut Beach

There are several cosy and peaceful beaches on South Bimini. Tiki Hut Beach might be the most significant one. It is a white sandy beach located on the western coast and has a length of over 2 kilometres. The shores are surrounded by breathtaking flora consisting of rattans, sisals and unique tropical flowers.

Honeymoon Beach

Honeymoon Beach is the famous beach of Gun Cay, located south of Bimini. The origin of the name is unknown, but make no mistake, the beach is not only for lovers. We can only approach it on a boat or on any other type of vessel. The beach is covered by warm sand, and diving in the incredibly clean water is a fantastic experience. There are several stingray species living near the beach, which have been so used to the presence of humans that they just swim around in peace. If we are careful enough and pay attention not to step on them, the chances of being stung are very slim. We can even touch or feed them.

North Cat Cay Beach

There are white sandy beaches all over the western coast of North Cat Cay. We can collect beautiful shells and other treasures on the beach. As the sea is very calm here, it is ideal for waterskiing, surfing and kayaking. The Bahamian waters are the cleanest in these parts, making them perfect for snorkelling as well. Divers can venture further out towards the Gulf stream where they can explore amazing reefs and giant tropical fish in the deep waters.

Sailing in Bimini – on the border of the Bahamas

Bimini is the Bahamian island located closest to the United States. It can be found [...]

Bimini has a subtropical climate, characterised by moderate warm weather during the entire year. The average annual temperature is 28° Celsius; this means 21° Celsius in the winter and 27° Celsius in the summer. The temperature rarely drops below 16° Celsius or above 32° Celsius. The dominant wind blows from the northeast in the winter and from the southeast in the summer, freshening up the air a bit. The velocity of the wind is an average of 15 km/h during the entire year. Most of the precipitation falls in the summer months. At the end of the summer – during the period between June and November – tropical cyclones (hurricanes) may be a threat.

The strong wind (with a blast of over 90 km/h) and the seawater that rises, as a result, may cause heavy damage. The weather is usually pleasant in Bimini during the whole year, meaning that sailing is also enjoyable in all seasons. We should definitely avoid the hurricane season though, as storms may be very challenging.

Weather in Bimini

The climate diagrams are based on 30 years of hourly weather model simulations. They give good indications of typical climate patterns and expected conditions (temperature, precipitation, sunshine, and wind). The “mean daily maximum” (solid red line) shows the maximum temperature of an average day for every month for Bimini. Likewise, the “mean daily minimum” (solid blue line) shows the average minimum temperature.

Wind rose in Bimini

Miami to Bimini Yacht Charter Itinerary

Day 1: Alice Town & Bimini Bay Marina

Bimini Bay Marina will be our destination on the first day of our Bimini & Berrys charter. It’s just a 2 1/2 hour ride from Miami and where we will clear customs in the Bahamas. Guests will be able to spend the afternoon visiting Alice Town and enjoying miles of deserted beach on the north shore.

Day 2: Sapon shipwreck & Chub Cay

Leaving North Bimini, we will make a stop at the wreck of the cargo Sapona for some snorkeling before heading across the Great Bahama Bank for 3 hours run to the recently rebuilt Chub Cay Club, now one of the Bahamas most modern marinas, located at the southwest tip of the Berry Islands.

Day 3: White Cay

Leaving Chub Cay, a short 90 minutes cruise around the southernmost Berry Islands will take us to White Cay, in the central Berry Islands, often considered one of the most attractive anchorages in this part of the Bahamas. It is within “tender distance” of the 600′ deep Blue Hole on nearby Hoffman’s Cay and many sandy beaches to explore for a day, or more if desired.

Day 4: Great Harbor Cay

On day four of your charter, we will continue northbound towards Great Harbor Cay and anchor off one of the most beautiful beaches in the Northwestern Bahamas. Miles of pristine white sand and turquoise waters await you as well as the Sugar Beach Caves.

Day 5: Bimini Bay Resort

Depending on our guests’ desires we can spend an extra day in Great Harbor Cay or a day in Bimini at the all-new Bimini Bay Resort and Marina. We have included a blank day in the itinerary just in case you decide to spend more time somewhere along the way… This is your yacht charter after all!

Book Your Miami to Bimini Yacht Charter with Worldwide Boat

Cruising to Bimini

Bimini shipwreck

As the closest Bahamian port to the United States, Bimini is an easy and fun weekend run from South Florida for cruisers. And Bimini’s excellent sport fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving have given this pair of tiny islands an outsize reputation as a popular cruising destination.

Bimini Big Game Club Resort & Marina

Bimini is known as the sport-fishing capital of the world. Since 1936, this pioneering outfitter in Alice Town on North Bimini has hosted boats that ply the warm waters along the western edge of the Gulf Stream, where charter clients have bagged brag-worthy specimens of bonefish, billfish and tuna over the decades. The resort is just as well known for its dive center, founded in 1975 by Neal Watson, president of the Bahamas Dive Association. The resort’s lively Bimini Seafood Co. & Conch Bar is a popular spot for its weekly theme nights (including Lobster Sundays) and international sporting events on its big screens.

The Sapona Wreck

If only the weather-worn walls of the SS Sapona could talk. This wreck that’s now a navigational landmark for cruisers and a popular fishing, diving and snorkeling destination had originally been destined to serve as a cargo vessel during World War I, but its production ran longer than the war did. A Florida rum runner used the ship briefly as a floating warehouse in Bahamian waters during Prohibition until a hurricane ran it aground in 1926 just a few miles off Bennett’s Harbor in South Bimini. With a maximum depth of only 20 feet, the Sapona appeals to divers and snorkelers of all skill levels who frequently spot barracuda, triggerfish, large lobsters and many other species among the ship’s spooky, rusty remains.  joe’s conch shack There’s a reason there’s usually a line at this small, open-air conch shack between Bailey Town and Resorts World. The freshness and generous portions of the conch salad—usually handmade by Joe himself—make Joe’s Conch Shack a must-stop on any Bimini itinerary. Grab a Kalik beer—especially if you liberally apply the pepper sauce to the conch salad—and enjoy this refreshing island staple along with the harbor views.

Edith’s Pizza & Bahamian Food

Lobster pizza, using the sweet local style of Bimini bread dough for its crust, is the calling card of this island favorite on King’s Highway near Bailey Town. Pick up this distinctive pie for lunch or dinner any day of the week.

Dolphin House Museum

For 30 years, this “poem in stone” has provided a touch of whimsy and artistry in Alice Town. Local author and historian Ashley Saunders assembled this three-story museum from treasures collected on Bimini’s beaches and from recycled materials around the island. Colorful mosaics line the walls, populated by pods of dolphins like the one that first inspired Saunders’ creation. The artist himself is often on-site, providing guided tours to visitors and adding new scenes to his remarkable labor of love.
